?? Shaping the Future: Evaluating the Nigeria Trust Fund (NTF) at the African Development Bank Group ??

I’m thrilled to share that we recently conducted an evaluation mission for the Nigeria Trust Fund (NTF) in Abuja, Nigeria, from July 22-25, 2024. This mission, led by Clement Banse and myself, focused on engaging with the Federal Republic of Nigeria to gather essential insights.

The NTF, established in 1976, is the third financing window of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) and is crucial for supporting the most disadvantaged African countries, especially low-income countries and those in fragile situations. The NTF fosters sustainable development and economic resilience across Africa by providing concessional financing.

This evaluation builds on my experience with evaluating the Bank’s Middle-Income Countries Technical Assistance Fund (MIC-TAF) in 2019 and the evaluation of Partnerships at AfDB in 2021, which assessed all Trust Funds, including Co-financing Framework Agreements and Special Funds.

In addition to maximizing the impact of the NTF, this evaluation will determine the future strategic direction of the fund. This includes considerations for replenishment, leveraging additional funds through financial engineering, and balance sheet optimization. These aspects, highlighted in our Inception Report, will be crucial for enhancing the Fund’s sustainability and effectiveness in the coming years.

Stay tuned for our findings, which will shape future strategies to enhance the NTF’s impact. Please visit IDEV for updates!
