Shallow Twin TBM Bore Tunnel Study
Andrew Cushing, P.Eng., M.Eng.
Associate Geotechnical and Tunnelling Engineer at Arup
To study the settlement and structural effects of two closely spaced, 6m diameter, shallow TBM bored tunnels in soil, a 2D Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was performed using the commercial software PLAXIS. Numerical results yielded ground surface settlement profiles in addition to tunnel lining normal load and bending moment under a variety of contraction and stress relaxation values. These results were compared to those generated by closed form solutions. The resulting structural forces were compared to the capacity of a 300mm thick Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete (SFRC) segmental precast tunnel lining.
Thank you for sharing Andrew! Keep the good work and those posts going! For anyone who has questions about PLAXIS, please send me a message or look at www.virtuosity.com/product/plaxis-2d/

3 年Hi Andrew, can you provide more details such geotechnical parameters, if the excavation is under a water table, and found Smax values?
