Shall it be this Battlefield?

which battlefield is preferable,

where is stand to advantage taken,

is one mindset more comfortable,

shall reason or emotion hold sway,

can comfort be gained, how possible,

how is it determined which to choose,

shall oral tradition, like canticle

sung through ages determine voices,

that shall be heard so admirable,

may written pact provide our guidance,

as if pen and ink make graspable,

could actions be gauged, morality

become for people a manacle,

prisoners to thought, shall each brother,

sister, mother, father, animal,

swear to each other fidelity,

make pact of friendship the essential,

forswear animosity in form,

that peace, like rivers, flows bountiful,

and conflict is no longer chosen,

shall under heaven, such festival,

become our lasting inheritance,
