PAST: Nepotism at the Helm The legacy of EY India is marred by nepotism. Mr. Rajiv Memani, the current CEO, succeeded his father in the role, raising questions about meritocracy within the organization. This transition has been a point of contention, suggesting that leadership roles are reserved for a select few rather than being based on merit.
PRESENT: A Toxic Work Culture The present state of EY India is alarming. The tragic death of a 26-year-old employee, Anna Sebastian Perayil, allegedly due to extreme work pressure, has brought to light the toxic work environment at EY. Despite Mr. Rajiv Memani’s public apology on LinkedIn, which garnered over 1666 comments, not a single comment resonated with his sentiments. Employees have voiced concerns about work abuse, broken rules, and an HR department that seems to be complicit rather than supportive. Legal complaints are piling up, and employees’ final settlements are reportedly withheld, further exacerbating the situation.
FUTURE: A Bleak Outlook Looking ahead, the future of EY India appears grim. Despite the mounting evidence of a toxic work culture and numerous legal complaints, EY Global has shown little interest in replacing the top management. This lack of action suggests that the status quo will remain, with no significant changes to improve the work environment or address the systemic issues plaguing the organization.
Food for Thought:
1) Why is Indan Govt. & especially Labour Department/Ministry sleeping in this matter?
2) What are the compulsion of EY global to go soft on EY India Management?
3) What Options do EY employees have?
