Are there shadows in your business that are causing issues with your IT?

Shadow IT and your exposure to threats.

Have you ever been in that situation where you are working with a new customer or supplier, during the onboarding session you need to supply additional data to the customer\supplier to ensure you don't hold up the process you use cloud apps or a cloud service that your business doesn't use?

In the last decade, the use of the cloud has seen exponential growth, the ability for a user to browse the internet and download the latest SaaS Applications (Software as a Service) creates a situation that could leave you and your business exposed.

We aren't implying that all cloud applications pose a security risk to your business, but if they are set up with minimal security controls then this makes it easy for hackers or cybercriminals to gain access to your data. We tend to see those cloud applications that store data are used to "securely" move sensitive data between businesses. We advise that you perform due diligence on any SaaS applications and ensure that they meet the compliance needs of the business and they aren't going to increase your security risk.

The spread of Shadow IT can be reduced by implementing security controls that prevent users from moving data to cloud applications that aren't authorised. We remove administration privileges from users computers, this stops the ability to install new applications that could cause a data breach. With everyone home working now it's even more important to ensure that cloud security is well and truly covered.
