SHADES OF GREATNESS

Awaken the Power Within: Ordinary People - Extraordinary Impact

by Angela Hamburger

?

At the end of this year, our world is fractured, divided, and in crisis. We face global challenges—climate change, inequality, political instability—but at this very moment, we, the people hold the power to shape the future.

The world is not a place of hopelessness; it is a canvas waiting for us to paint. The world we live in is the result of our collective choices—and it all starts with us. Ordinary people with extraordinary power. We may not change everything overnight, but we have the power to change everything in the moments we choose to act.

So today, I want to talk about hope and greatness—two forces that are more important now than ever as we face a world filled with uncertainty and challenge. In these difficult times, hope is the light that guides us, the belief that something better is always possible. Greatness, on the other hand, is the result of that hope put into action—the tangible expression of our dreams and ambitions. It resides within all of us, ready to awaken.

This is the essence of "Shades of Greatness"—the understanding that true greatness is a path, not a grand gesture. A path that carries us from the shadows of doubt and despair, guided by an unshakable spark of hope, toward greatness rooted in everyday acts of courage, compassion, and resilience.

True greatness isn’t found in the extraordinary; it lives in the heart of us, the ordinary people. It’s the courage to rise each day and face life’s challenges with unwavering determination. It thrives in relentless kindness that touches a soul, the resilience that carries us through life’s storms. These moments define us, setting the foundation for a life of purpose and impact.

These aren’t small acts—they are seeds of greatness. Together, they ignite a ripple of transformation—lifting others, healing wounds, touching lives, and shaping a world that’s better, brighter, and profoundly human.

We, the "average people"—the unsung heroes, the everyday doers—are the true foundation of the world. Often overlooked, but never forgotten, we are the heartbeat of humanity. We drive progress, not for applause, but for the well-being of others. We are the people who quietly yet relentlessly keep everything moving. Resilient, compassionate, and committed, we are the backbone of society, shaping the future with every action.

And here’s the truth: Greatness isn’t born in boardrooms or government halls. It’s born in the everyday actions of everyday people—people like you and me. It’s in how we show up for each other, fight for justice, care for the planet, and lift each other up. It’s in small acts of kindness: extending a hand to someone in need, speaking out when silence is easier. It’s about standing for what is right, even when no one else will.

True greatness is not found in grand gestures. It is found in the choices we make every single day. It’s the way we choose to show up, even when it’s hard. It’s the way we decide to care, to love, to be a force for good in a world that sometimes feels like it’s falling apart. It’s in the small, seemingly insignificant moments that create a ripple effect of change.

Greatness lives in the everyday actions of everyday people, like you and me. In the words of Thich Nhat Hanh, "We are here to awaken from our illusion of separateness." When we live with integrity, compassion, and mindfulness—acting with a sense of shared responsibility—we create a greatness that transcends time, leaving an undeniable mark on the world. It’s in our choices, our actions, that true impact is born.

You might be thinking, “What can I do? I’m just one person. What I do doesn’t matter.” Well, let me tell you this: you’re dead wrong.

The truth is, the character of a nation, the strength of a community, is built from the actions of everyday people. From you. From me. From all of us. Our collective actions, no matter how small, add up. If each of us did one kind thing for a neighbor—one small act of love or generosity—we would see an unimaginable transformation in our world.

When you do that, you break down walls of hatred and prejudice. If we all do this, the country would come together. And that’s the power of common greatness.

So here’s what you need to know: You matter. Your actions matter. You are not just one person—you are a part of something much larger, something powerful, something that can change the world. And it starts with you, right here, right now.

I know some of you might be thinking, “This is impossible. People won’t change.” But let me remind you—it’s not a miracle. Every year, we witness something extraordinary at Christmas. When people come together, share, and care for one another, magic happens. That’s the Santa spirit we need, all year long. So, power up your spirit!

In 1897, Virginia O’Hanlon wrote to The New York Sun with a timeless question: “Is there a Santa Claus?” The response, now legendary, declared that the answer was yes—not as a man in a red suit, but as a symbol of generosity and the belief in something greater than ourselves. Santa Claus isn’t a person. It’s a principle. It’s the embodiment of hope, of selflessness, of the greatness we can achieve when we care more about giving than taking.

Greatness isn’t a miracle waiting to happen. It is a choice. A choice to rise above the noise, to act with intention, to create change one small step at a time. We don’t need to be superheroes to make a difference. We just need to be us. We just need to care.

Wake up, everyone. You are the hope of the world. It starts with you. But we have to act. Not tomorrow. Not next year. Today.

This is not a job only for the rich, the powerful, or the famous. It’s a job for all of us. We, the people. We are the ones who can make the world better. We don’t need to change the world in one big stroke. It starts small. It starts with our neighbors, our communities. Do more with less. Do what you can, where you are, with what you have.

When we walk this path hand in hand, we become architects of change, builders of a world where greatness is not reserved for the few but realized by the many. That’s how greatness is built—not through grand gestures, but through small everyday acts of love and kindness. It begins at home, in our streets, and in the choices we make every day.

Greatness doesn’t come from one person shining brightly alone, but from millions of everyday people coming together with intention, love, and compassion.

This is the power of “Shades of Greatness”: not rare, not unreachable, but alive in you, waiting to be unleashed. So I ask you, today, right here, right now: What will you do? How will you rise to the occasion? Will you sit back and wait for change, or will you be the change?

You have the power to transform not just your life, but the world around you!

Let’s not wait for greatness to find us—let’s create it together.
