Shab-e She'r January 2022 Report
Shab-e She’r (Poetry Night) LXXXIII Report
January 25, 2022
Featuring: Mohineet Kaur Boparai & J. Marshall Freeman
?
Shab-e She’r (Poetry Night) LXXXIII was a déjà vu. We came back after about two years of not running events, in-person or online. In many ways, it reminded me of the very first event in the series back in November 2012.
Our features, Mohineet Kaur Boparai and J. Marshall Freeman, gave stellar featured sets of moving poetry. Between the two of them, they covered many topics and emotions.
We had some brave open mic’ers:
1.??????Elisha
2.??????Eleni Gouliaras
3.??????Richard Yives-Sitoski
4.??????Rula Kahil
5.??????Paul Edward Costa
6.??????Golnaz Taherian
7.??????Bahar Ebrahimi
8.??????Leslie Roach
9.??????Mike Taylor
10.??Sam Cheuk
11.??Simon Constam
12.??Mycah Katz
13.??Kate Duncan
14.??Gavin Barrett
I also shared a poem on the open mic.
It takes a community to build a community. I would like to thank everyone who bought tickets and attended to support; everyone who spread the word on different social media, email, and through other means. Thanks to everyone who joined to listen and to share.
I would like to thank the Shab-e She’r team who made it all possible: Mārta Ziemelis, Rula Kahil, Golnaz Taherian, Gavin Barrett, and Paul Edward Costa. They worked tirelessly behind the scenes and during the event and helped it run smoothly.
Our next event is on February 22, 2022, featuring Leslie Roach and Sam Cheuk.
Here is how you can make the poetry scene as inclusive as it should be: Take the initiative to invite communities and individuals that are underrepresented. Community is what we create together. And together we can make it inclusive, brave, diverse, kind, and thoughtful.
Much love,
