McCarthy Names Provisional Harambee Stars Squad for World Cup Qualifiers

Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy has unveiled a 49-man provisional squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Gambia and Gabon, introducing several new talents to the national team.

New Call-Ups:

• Kelly Madada (AFC Leopards attacking midfielder)
• William Lenkupae (Australia-born midfielder)
• Mathew Tegisi (Pamba Jiji FC striker)

Tegisi, notable for his impressive performance with Shabana before his January move to Tanzanian Premier League side Pamba Jiji, is expected to strengthen Kenya's attacking lineup.

• Andreas Odhiambo
• Ben Stanley (Gor Mahia)

While integrating new talent, McCarthy has retained key regulars, with Gor Mahia contributing seven players. Notable inclusions are:

• Masoud Juma
• Richard Odada
• Amos Nondi
• Elvis Rupia (returning to the national setup)

The squad will commence training on Wednesday in preparation for the crucial fixtures. Kenya is scheduled to play Gambia away on March 20, followed by a home match against Gabon on March 23. Currently, Harambee Stars are fourth in Group 'F' with five points from four matches. African champions Ivory Coast lead the group with 10 points, followed by Gabon (nine), Burundi (four), Gambia (three), and Seychelles, who have yet to register a point.

McCarthy's emphasis on youth development and strategic inclusions aims to bolster Kenya's performance in these pivotal qualifiers.
