The SGME Scoop | Edition #2
There has been a lot going on at SGME that we would like to share with you. In this newsletter you can read about: ?
New service offering...
We are excited to announce that we've expanded our service portfolio to include Geotechnical Engineering.?
Our services in the geotechnical engineering space span from initial project conception desktop assessments, site investigation and characterisation, risk assessment and management, due diligence studies, slope stability analysis, instrumentation and monitoring, tailings and mine waste management, and mine closure.?
No matter the scope of your geotechnical project, Our Team of highly skilled geotechnical professionals and geoscientists have a solid understanding of what is required to develop and deliver successful mining projects.
We are absolutely delighted to welcome to Keith and Michael to our geotechnical engineering team.
Keith Mandisodza ?– Geotechnical Principal
Keith joins us as our Principal Geotechnical Engineer. Keith’s brings a wealth of knowledge and industry experience to the table!
A few words from Keith:?
"Having worked in mining for 20 years I made the move to consulting and academia where I have learnt different aspects of geotechnical engineering and application at various levels. The last five years have been instrumental in clarifying my thoughts around integrating two disciplines that are often undertaken in silos — geotechnical and environmental sciences — both of which are required for a sustainable mining solution, especially as they apply to mining geotechnics, mine waste management, and closure more broadly.?
Joining SGME allows me to drive this idea. ?It is an exciting opportunity to join an established and respected mine closure and rehabilitation firm and close the gap in mine geotechnics, creating an overarching mandate that ensures mining is conducted sustainably from mine conception, to operation, closure, and beyond.?
Bringing mine closure and rehabilitation environment services together with geotechnical engineering to create a dedicated geoenvironmental mine closure consulting firm promotes cross-pollination in our teams, allowing us to focus on site-specific solutions that engineer new environments."
Michael McMahon –?Geotechnical Engineer
Michael says the following:
"As a young budding engineer with a keen interest in finding innovative and sustainable solutions to environmental and geotechnical problems I am fortunate to bring my skills and enthusiasm to the SGME team.?
The proactive, forward thinking and initiative approach that SGME takes to its projects is what drew me to the company and I look forward to having the opportunity to add my own expertise into current and future projects."
Join us in welcoming...
Alissa Gordon - Adminstrative Assistant
Alissa brings extensive support services' experience within the mining industry, as well as State and Commonwealth government sectors.?
As administrative assistant, Alissa will support SGME's corporate services function.?
She has interest in sustainability and social impacts and was drawn to SGME because of our expertise in mine closure and collaboration with the mining and minerals sector for a sustainable future.
Tammarah Kelly –?Environmental Scientist
"I'm an Environmental Scientist with a Major in Ecology and conservation. I'm currently working within the Geoscience team at SGME. In my spare time I love to play netball, read a good book and catch up with friends.?
I chose to work for SGME because their values and their desire to deliver innovative solutions to complicated challenges, engages and motivates me."

Tim and Jack Lang in the central west region of NSW, undertaking cover and landform investigations.
Water, Sediment and Macroinvertebrate Sampling
Joseph Trigger is with Tim Howell from Freshwater Ecology undertaking field work for a Receiving Environment Monitoring Program (REMP). Specifically, taking water, sediment, and macroinvertebrate samples from six monitoring points to determine the health of the ecosystem, and the presence of potential contaminants.
Fauna handling (Spotter Catcher) Training
Laura, Jack and Joe headed to Wamuran for their fauna and venomous snake handling training. Special thanks to Evan from Elapid Enviro for his insights and teachings. Warning: don't look too close if you don't like snakes, haha!?
On the horizon for SGME
SGME is proud of its association with the Australian Centre for Geomechanics (ACG) and is excited to announce that we are a major sponsor of the 15th International Mine Closure Conference in Perth, Western Australia, from 26-28 November, 2024, at The Westin in Perth.
