SGL Summer Researcher Presents Poster at Texas A&M Undergraduate Summer Research Grant (USRG) REU Program

College Station, TX-??

Kate Korey , a recipient of the Texas A&M Undergraduate Summer Research Grant (USRG) and student participant of the Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates Program (S-REU), presented her summer research work with a poster at the final event for the S-REU Program held in the Zachry Building. The S-REU program is an undergraduate summer research grant program that provides undergraduate students the opportunity to gain extensive research experience within TAMU’s College of Engineering.??

With guidance from Dr. Zenon Medina-Cetina , an Associate Professor in the Zachry Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Texas A&M University and the Director of the SGL - Stochastic Geomechanics Laboratory , along with the help of computer science graduate student and fellow SGL team member, Polkampally Keerthana , Korey has been able to gain hands-on experience in risk assessment while working with Bayesian Risk Networks.??

?“We were proud to be selected by Kate as the research host lab for her USRG S-REU program. It is great when you see motivated and bright students like Kate spend time in our lab and see her technical skills grow during the summer. We hope she can come back to join SGL as a graduate student soon!”- Dr. Medina-Cetina

Korey, who attends Fordham University full-time, studying engineering physics, has spent the summer in College Station partaking in research with SGL and studying risk assessment methodologies applied to critical civil infrastructure.??

As the USRG program comes to an end, Korey presented her other work titled, “The Goethals Bridge is Falling Down! How do We Save it?: The Integration of Risk Assessment and Bayesian Networks.” You can learn more about her poster presentation here:
