WE ARE LOOKING FOR A RESEARCHER
This position will focus on the development of novel user modeling and personalisation techniques. We wish someone who is capable of effectively eliciting user preferences in order to enhance the user experience when interacting with media content while at the same time taking into account important competing factors such as business values, editorial norms, professional ethics, societal values, individual values, and algorithmic fairness.

MediaFutures at the Lerchendal Conference 2025
The Lerchendal Conference is a key gathering for 200 top leaders and talents from politics, business, and academia. This year’s theme: Geopolitics and the Technological Race.
On Day 1, MediaFutures Centre Leader Christoph Trattner will take the stage to discuss our cutting-edge research on misinformation—exploring its profound impact on democracy, the economy, and society at large.

Responsible AI-driven Media Tech
Between March 19 to 22, Associate Professor Luca Maria Aiello from the University of Copenhagen will visit SFI MediaFutures to hold a seminar on the?impact on emerging tech on democracy and public discourse. Follow us on social media for more info.
Seminar with Maria Soledad Pera
Dr. Maria Soledad Pera is an Associate Professor at the Web Information Systems group of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EWI), Delft University of Technology. Sole's main area of expertise is in Information Retrieval with emphasis on non-traditional populations. Her current research work focuses on understanding the limitations and designing algorithmic support so that information access systems (search and recommender tools) can better serve all users (e.g., children) in different contexts (e.g., the classroom).
Sole will visit SFI MediaFutures between April 3 to 6. More infos will be shared on social media.
What happened in January and December?
Meet our new colleague: Yuki Onishi
Dr. Yuki Onishi began her role as a Researcher in Work Package 4 on January 6, 2025. Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, she completed both her PhD and postdoctoral position in her hometown.

With a specialization in enhancing tangible interfaces and physical objects—such as furniture—for improved human-computer interaction, Yuki brings a lot of expertise to the team.
As part of MediaFutures, she will collaborate closely with researchers and industry professionals on related challenges and innovations within Work Package 4.

At MediaFutures, innovation is at the core of everything we do. As a research-based innovation centre (SFI), we focus on advancing media technology and related AI applications, continually pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. To stay at the forefront, we have developed a model for how we drive innovation at the centre. Behind these efforts is our innovation coordinator, Dr. Christopher Senf.??

Live fact-checking of world leaders
Our partner Factiverse has fact-checked the address by several world leaders, as part of their Davos Fact-Checking Initiative. As world leaders convene at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos to deliver speeches and engage in debates, Factiverse is working to ensure clarity and credibility by thoroughly verifying their statements and claims.

MediaFutures and its Mid-way evaluation
We completed a several month long mid-way evaluation process for our center with a comprehensive and final 4-hour remote interview end of January 2025. Now, we eagerly await the report and the outcome from the Portfolio Board, which will determine whether MediaFutures receives continued funding from Norges forskningsr?d.
Slam poetry about MediaFutures
At our Annual Meeting in November 2024, we invited slam poet Marlene Rom to create a unique piece about SFI MediaFutures. We were truly impressed by Marlene’s powerful performance and her creative interpretation of us as a research center dedicated to innovation, prototypes, and impactful results. It was fun!?
