Sexual Harassment At Workplace
By: Dishari Malalakar (Editor I Content Writer I Book Reviewer)
Today I attended a very insightful session organised by the Women Studies and Development Centre, University of Delhi. The topic was 'Sexual Harassment and Legal Rights'. The speaker was esteemed advocate Mr. Dibyanshu Pandey.
I thought it is VERY important that I share it with all my connections as well as everyone I know personally.
Sexual Harassment is one of the most pressing issues in today's day and age. I confess that I had been a victim too but at that time, I didn't have the awareness to take actions. Shockingly, I have to admit that I realised it today that I have been harassed in one of my previous workplaces and I wasn't aware of it UNTIL TODAY.
Therefore, I don't want any woman to go through this and not raise their voice against it.
From this session, I learnt about the main indicators that will help you identify Sexual Harassment At Workplace.
HERE ARE THE INDICATORS:
1. ANY FORM OF DISCRIMINATION AGAINST YOU, ESPECIALLY BASED ON GENDER. I REPEAT 'ANY!'
2. HOSTILE WORKPLACE: Yes, you read it correctly. This also comes under Sexual Harassment.
If every morning, you don't feel like going to work and just at the thought of being at work terrifies you, it is an indicator that your workplace isn't safe.
If your office environmental is preventing you to give your best at work, it is hostile.
It can also manifest itself as a feeling of isolation or that constant nagging thought that people are talking behind your back.

3. YOU ARE NOT GIVEN WORK DELIBERATELY OR YOU FEEL EXCLUDED, GIVEN THAT THERE HAVE BEEN NO COMPLAINS REGARDING YOUR PERFORMANCE OR CAPABILITIES.
Note: If you are facing any such issues, please consult the authorities and ask for reasons.
I think these are most common manifestations of Sexual Harassment At Workplace and MANY of us are not aware of it.
Few things Mr. Pandey said were very important:
?? Take Action before it is too late.
?? Talk to People and don't think about how the society will treat you.
??Seek help because if you thinking of dealing, the problems will keep compounding.'
Also, it doesn't only apply to office workplace but also your educational institutions.
Speak up if you are going through any such issues. There are legal provisions to protect you. ????
Lastly, please share this post as much as you can so that more people are aware of this.
