The world we live in has got love tainted, when you tell someone you love them, you automatically invest powers in their hands that give them the authority to treat you however they want, emotionally and sexually.

"I was 14, when I first came in a relationship, it was all butterflies and roses until the day I realized I was a mere means of sexual adoration for him and I didn’t like that feeling, so I resented it. But like we’ve been taught since our childhood that boys will be boys, that guy could not take a no and tried pushing my boundaries each and every time.

When I decided I could take this no longer and told him that I wanted to end things with him, his ego was crushed and under that severity he harassed me mentally, emotionally and sexually. I was 16 when this happened.

When you are 16, you hardly know about your rights, because of course we are never taught about this, not at home and definitely not in school. I knew no escape and it took me an year or so to get out of my shell. I’m 22 now and till date I haven’t gathered enough courage to share what I went through with my family but by sharing my story today I want to create enough awareness about sexual assaults and rights that a women/child have in such cases.

When a child attains a certain age there’s a whole world that twists their idea of love and romance. That incident surely gave me a different outlook for love but it also left a mark on my heart and my brain. Now I think twice before seeing someone but I also overthink to a point where I spoil a possible connection.

I am now working and living independently and constantly trying to create a space that talks openly about things like romantic relationships, emotions, sexual relationships and sexual abuse around me.

So if my story left you thoughts, please look out for kids in your family, talk to them, make them feel heard, tell them their feelings are valid, guide them through it. Not having such conversations doesn’t mean that your child will abstain from seeking love. If you scare them today, you’ll scar them forever!"
