Sexism, Racism, Hate Crime...?

Sadly, America is awakening into another kind of deadly pandemic, the venomous hate crime based on oppressive sexism, debauchery of racism, and out-of-control hate crime. The recent killing of eight (seven women and a man) in Atlanta may not be an aberration, but deeply rooted hatred toward race, sex, and orientation…  Sexism, racism, and hate crime are nothing new in America. Now, they are highlighted by the emotional pandemic imprisonment, political circumspection, and instantaneous broadcasting by social media. The Covid-19 pandemic might be contained by the vaccine, science, and medical intervention but there seems to be no end in sight to hate crime. Can science, medicine, and political legislation stop hate crime…? Or the subversive wrath retaliation is forthcoming? Is America thrusting itself into self-destruction by the emotional response to perceived wrongs and injustices that are pervasive in America?

Now, it may be very critical and timely, though disgusting, for all to take a deep breath and look into the depth of sexism, racism, and hate crime in America. Look into your heart to understand if there is a brewing hatred within you. What do you hate enough to kill?

1.    Sexual harassment in the workplace is certainly nothing new, but it’s safe to say the issue is now, rightfully, taking center stage. In Albany, New York, Governor Andrew Cuomo is facing allegations by numerous female staff, aide, the female reporter has said that sexual harassment is “as pervasive as air” in New York’s statehouse in Albany,” some said. Is it just in New York? Well, sexism is everywhere. Look at the high-profile men who have been accused of sexual harassment, assault, and/or misconduct like Harvey Weinstein, Matt Lauer, Tony Robbins, Luke Walton, Bryan Singer, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Bill Cosby, Jeffrey Epstein just mention a few… These people (mostly men) seem to abuse power over powerless women as their entitled trophy for success and power. Often the powerless women have no recourse but to suffer in silence.

Note: The EEOC has defined sexual harassment in its guidelines as unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical, the conduct of a sexual nature when: Submission to such conduct is made either explicitly or implicitly a term or.

2.    Racial Discrimination. Are human beings not born to work, love, live with different races? Is one race preferable to another? Which race is the most superior one? Can you say? Well, Romans, Russians, Chinese, Germans… tried and failed miserably to embrace the idea of supreme race. Yet many are not convinced. Anyone who lived and worked around the USA may have seen palpable racial discrimination and racial injustice. It is deeply embedded in the soul and history of America… Just a few… Remember the history of 1921 Tulsa, Oklahoma race massacre, 1965 LA race riots, George Floyd and Breonna Taylor race riots (More to come), … and now killing eight, mostly Asian women, in Atlanta… Many may try to rationalize… But what do you think? Race discrimination involves treating someone unfavorably because he/she is of a certain race... Whose America is the United States of America? Not black, not Asian, not American Indian…? Then who? White America? Hmmm...

Racial discrimination can be defined as discrimination against individuals on the basis of their race or personal characteristic associated with race. Such characteristics include hair texture, skin color, or certain facial features. Color discrimination involves treating someone differently because of skin complexion. Discrimination can occur even when the victim and the assailant are of the same race or color. Examples of racial discrimination include but are not limited to Racial slurs, Offensive or derogatory remarks about a person’s race or skin color, Displaying racially offensive symbols…

3. Hate Crime. Pandemic has fueled the hate crime and attack on Asians nationwide from coast to coast. The recent storming of the Capitol building in DC is a good example of hate crime. Hate against political affiliation and ideology… And more recently, many women, weak and old Asian Americans are targeted and attacked: 75-year old Asian woman and 67-year old man, and 84-year old killed, and many more were attacked in San Francisco, the 91-year old man was pushed to the ground in Oakland, CA… and at the other side of the coast nearly 500 Asians in New York were targets of bias incidents or hate crimes in 2020, ranging from verbal to physical assaults, including acid attacks. So, the FBI says, the hate crimes are the highest priority of the FBI’s civil rights program because of the devastating impact they have on families and communities. But what is the real lasting impact of the hate crime program on people? Not much better, many would say. Or some even say it’s getting worse. What do you think? Do you have an idea for stopping hate crime in America? Or is this new normal?
