On sex, genders and other words

The following is a non-exhaustive list of words related to sexuality, relations and gender.

  • Sexual sexuality sexism sexistic sexist
  • Allosexual - This is an umbrella term. A person who identifies as allosexual typically feels sexual attraction toward other people.
  • Autosexual - a sexual orientation in which people primarily experience sexual attraction toward themselves
  • Heterosexual
  • Homosexual

  • Monosexual - Monosexuality is romantic or sexual attraction to members of one sex or gender only ie hetero or homo
  • Polysexual
  • Biromantic - romantically attracted to multiple genders
  • Bisexual
  • Trisexual - Attraction to 3 genders
  • Demisexual - feel sexual attraction to someone after they've formed a strong emotional bond
  • Asexual - A term used to describe someone who does not experience sexual attraction toward individuals of any gender
  • Pansexual / Omnisexual
  • Alcosexual - A person who can only be sexually aroused when intoxicated.
  • Fraysexual - people experience a strong attraction to strangers, and less attraction to people they know well
  • Graysexual - someone who experiences sexual attraction on a very low level or inconsistently
  • Lithsexual - Describes someone who experiences sexual attraction but loses interest when the possibility of reciprocation arises
  • Neptunic - A person attracted to those who identify on the masculine spectrum, regardless of their assigned sex at birth
  • Fictosexual - Describes someone who experiences romantic or sexual attraction towards fictional character
  • Aroflux - A romantic orientation where a person's capacity for romantic attraction fluctuates over time
  • Abrosexual - A sexual orientation that is fluid and can change over time
  • Retrosexual - A man who embraces traditional masculinity in his dress and behavior. (humorous) One who has not had sex in a very long time.
  • Metrosexual - urban heterosexual male given to enhancing his personal appearance by fastidious grooming, beauty treatments, and fashionable clothes.
  • Datasexual dataphilia
  • Trysexual - person, willing to "try anything" sexually
  • Technosexual
  • Undersexual oversexual
  • Pornosexual - Refers a person who prefers to watch porn and masturbate than to have actual sex.
  • Sapiosexual - a person sexually attracted to highly intelligent people
  • Solosexual - A person who prefers masturbation over other forms of sex
  • Monoamorous - romantic or sexual relationship with a single partner at a time
  • Polyamourus
  • Monogamy / Polygamy


  • Bromance - a close, friendly, but not sexual relationship between two men
  • Womance - a close but non-sexual, non-romantic relationship between two or more women
  • Bros - A male comrade or friend
  • Broettes - A female comrade or friend.


  • Cisgender - This describes someone whose gender identity aligns with the sex they were assigned at birth
  • Transgender-An umbrella term for people whose gender identity is different from the sex they were assigned at birth.
  • Genderqueer - An identity that falls outside of the traditional gender binary.
  • Agender - A person who doesn't identify with any gender.
  • Genderfluid - Someone whose gender identity changes over time.
  • Bigender - A person who identifies with two genders.
  • Non-Binary - This describes someone whose gender identity doesn't fall neatly into the categories of "man" or "woman." They may identify with a different gender altogether, or no gender at all.

Non-binary Identities:

  • Neutrois: A non-binary identity describing a gender that is neither masculine nor feminine, but something else entirely.
  • Demigender: A person who partially identifies with one gender and partially with no gender, or another gender.
  • Genderfae/Genderfaer: A non-binary identity encompassing femininity but not exclusively feminine.
  • Gendermasc/Gendermasculine: A non-binary identity encompassing masculinity but not exclusively masculine.
  • Androgynous: Someone who expresses a gender presentation that blends both masculine and feminine characteristics, or lacks either entirely.

Other Identities:

  • Genderflux: A person whose gender identity fluctuates on a spectrum over time.
  • Genderless: A person who does not identify with any gender.
  • Third gender: A cultural identity that recognizes genders beyond male and female. This varies greatly across cultures.
  • Two-spirit: An Indigenous North American identity encompassing both masculine and feminine spirits.


Fetish / fetishism - a form of sexual desire in which gratification is strongly linked to a particular object or activity or a part of the body other than the sexual organs.

Descriptive terms: These terms are more specific to the type of fetish a person has. Some examples include:

  • Podophilia: Fetish for feet
  • Uniform fetish: Arousal by uniforms of authority figures or professions
  • Material fetish: Getting turned on by specific materials like leather or latex
