Sewing Thread Consumption Calculation
Sewing may be a method in the apparel industry - but it is also an art that brings life into fashion. Every stitch that is made, builds character in the garments we create. As retail fashion merchandiser we are proud of taking the pride in both precision and specialization in delivering unique apparel products, which are crafted by hand. For example; we transform fabrics into bold fashion statements. During this transformation there is a fashioning process called sewing. And for a professional merchandiser, it is very much necessary to understand the sewing thread consumption in apparel manufacturing.
Today, I am writing this article that will cover how we will be able to calculate the sewing thread consumption with practical calculation.
Firstly, let's take a very deep dive in the above picture that includes how much sewing tread we need to stitch one inch fabric by different sewing machine.
Practical Examples 1
Solution:
Now, from the above chart;
Here,
= {(113" of 3 Thread O/L)?+ (56" of 3 Thread F/L)?+ (25" of 1 Needle Chain stitch)?+ (14" of 1 needle P/M)} + 15% Wastage
= {(113" X 15")?+ (56" X 17")?+ (25" X 11")?+ (14" X 2.75")} + 15% Wastage
=(1695 + 952 + 275 + 38.5) + 15% Wastage

= 2960.5 + 15% Wastage
= 3405 Inches
= 3405 / 39.37 Meter (As; 1 meter = 39.37 inches)
= 86.48 Meters
Here, 86.48 Meters sewing thread will be required.
Practical Examples 2
Solution:
= (Sewing thread consumption for per body X Total Garments Quantity) / Given thread amount in per cone.
= (86.48 X 2800) / 2000
= 242144 / 2000
= 122 Cones.
Here, 122 Cones will be needed to sew 2800 Pcs of garments.
