SEW long to Haiti, until May 2018!
‘Beginner’ Graduation Day has arrived!
Sewing Seeds Teachers arrived at the Sewing room to jubilation, and a flurry of hair being done and numerous last minute preparation by the students! Everyone was changing into their fabulous outfits and fussing with hair! It was reminiscent of a beauty pageant, and even Fritz (the only male) was dressed to the nines, in his white pants red top and shoes! Dapper!!
The graduation procession was regal, and filled with huge amounts of pride! Everyone looked amazing, and some had made their own outfits!! It was more somber, a service celebrating accomplishment and empowerment! Many Family and Friends were all in attendance to witness the achievement.
The program too, was very professional, with Welcoming comments from school President and Administrators. They spoke of all the opportunities that lay ahead for Students possessing the education and skill, provided by Sewing Seeds. These speeches were followed by singing and more speeches from Sewing Seeds, as Diploma’s were handed out. The Students are such a Grateful group! Certificates, and gifts of material and sewing kits, were presented to all of the Students.
The Graduation Day, also happened to be Sylvia’s Birthday! One student stood and sang a beautiful (English) solo of Happy Birthday! Then all students joined in, (Creole) to wish happy birthday in four part harmony! They were not students at this moment, but a chorus of angels! A wonderful gift to Sylvia and all within hearing range.
What a day ... what a future ahead for these Students ... they promise to work hard, ‘practicing' until Sewing Seeds returns in May for the Intermediate Level.
Teachers now pack up for the trip back to Canada.
The next few months will see preparation of Intermediate Kits required by the Haiti Students. Further Fundraising is always required. Already, an additional six, NEW Sewing machines have been ordered to augment the machines, provided by Sewing Seeds. These machines will Teach 100’s of students for years to come. Hundreds of Graduates!
Supporters and Friends of Sewing Seeds: "Thank you" for having followed the Haiti stories! Please SHARE our story, as it has such a glowing future. New Foreign Project Applications are being considered for Guatemala and Ghana. Conversations and applications are being worked on with Partners in Nicaragua, Ecuador, and Uganda. The Face Book posts have created many inquiries from Nigeria and other countries on the African continent. “Team Sewing Seeds” will be busy.
