Before the construction of silica bricks for the furnace crown, the following preparations must be done.

Selection of silica bricks for furnace crown

In the early stage of design, the refractory material for the furnace crown?must be high-quality silica bricks, and the intrinsic quality of silica bricks must be carefully rechecked, such as load softening temperature, true bulk density, melting index, etc.; in addition, attention must be paid to the appearance quality of silica bricks, such as brick size deviation, brick flatness, etc. During the construction process, there are many procedures and it is relatively complicated. First of all, bricks should be selected, because the moisture content of silica bricks changes during the production process (the same pile of materials has different moisture content in the morning and afternoon due to evaporation, especially in summer); there is slight deformation during the stacking drying and sintering process; the mold is worn during use and not replaced in time; the national standard also clearly allows positive and negative tolerances; therefore, bricks should be sorted before masonry, and bricks of the same specifications should be numbered (mainly the same size) and stacked together to ensure that the specifications and sizes of the same row of bricks are basically the same during masonry.

Installation of columns on both sides of the melting pool

While sorting bricks, the columns on both sides of the melting pool should be calibrated to make the distance between the two columns the same and ensure that the longitudinal mortar seams of the entire furnace crown?are consistent in size. The specific method is to first calibrate the distance between the two pairs of horizontal columns in front and behind, and use the columns as the benchmark. Therefore, when installing and erecting the columns, pay close attention to their verticality. Then draw a thin line between the front and rear columns on the same side, and let each pair of columns approach the thin line to ensure that the distance between the two columns is equal, so as to ensure that the mud thickness of each row of bricks is the same.

Laying of arch tyres and arch bricks

After the equal distance calibration and adjustment of the columns on both sides is completed, measure the horizontal elevation on each column and mark it to ensure that the arch foot bricks are on the same horizontal plane, and then install the arch foot steel and lay the arch foot bricks. After checking the laid arch foot bricks and meeting the design requirements, draw a horizontal elevation reference line on the lower part of the arch foot bricks. This reference line is the reference for erecting the arch tyres and laying the arch bricks. Before setting up the arch, each arch must be checked separately. The arc of the arch must be consistent with the design requirements of the furnace crown; the support points of the arch should be determined according to the span of the arch, and the number of support points should be set according to the thickness of the arch and other strength considerations; there must be enough support points to ensure that the arch does not deform after being loaded. After setting up the arch, let the arch load, move enough arch bricks to press on the arch, and then connect the horizontal elevation one by one to tighten the various support points of the arch.
