Seven Traits of a Leader attained through Yoga
On this occasion of International Yoga Day, It would be apt to share some of the leadership qualities one can imbibe and manifest within themselves when the real Yoga happens. Here the term yoga does not mean physical exercise but instead, it signified its literal meaning which is union/connection. So, pausing a bit for the suspense, let's see what are those qualities and how can we develop that.
- Gravity: Gravity signifies an inherent attractive nature like our mother earth. A person who has guru pada has this quality manifested within him and a good leader should have some traits of a Guru.
- Creative: Team members always look forward to their leaders for solutions. And the ability to creatively solve issues and provide innovative solutions makes a good leader a class apart from the ordinary ones.
- Calmness: A good leader should always instill calmness and peace within the team members irrespective of the circumstances.
- Nirvacchya Love: A leader should follow the principles of Nirvacchya love and also instill these attributes in his/her team members. Nirvacchya is a Sanskrit word that means to support/love/help someone without expecting anything in return.
- Collective Being: A good leader should be a collective being instead of an individualistic one. The Good leader is not spectacular but his/her team is. A good leader should not outshine the teachings.
- Detachment: Lead without possessiveness and do not take credit for helping. A leader should not have any favorites and should handle each situation with complete attention, detachment, and without any bias. Lead without destroying/hurting.
- Emotional connect and Integration: The leader should be fully integrated with his team. He/She should lead with nourishment. Watch the silence in the group and feel the content and the concern of the team. Feel the essential mood of the team. How the wind is blowing in the team.
While most of us would agree with the leadership traits mentioned above and the majority of us might already be knowing these and aspiring to practice as well. But these are not so easy attributes which be imbibed just by knowing about them. Even consciously trying these may not guarantee you the fulfillment as most of these traits are poles apart from what we follow in our daily life. Leaders, in order to exhibit such qualities, need some sort of inner transformation such that these attributes start manifesting from their personality naturally.
I know of one such practice that has been helping in the inner transformation of seekers since 1970. It is called Sahaja Yoga and is based on the awakening of a divine energy dormant within us called Kundalini and the awakening of this motherly energy provides the supreme Yoga/Union which is the connection with the Cosmic energy. It was founded by H. H. Shree Mataji Nirmala Devi and she had been teaching this to the truth seekers all over the world completely free of cost, as there can be no price attached to the mother's love.
Sahaja Yoga is currently followed in more than 120 countries in the world. With the awakening of the Kundalini, this energy pierces and nourishes 7 chakras of our subtle system and the qualities of these chakras start manifesting within the being. Interestingly enough the above mentioned 7 traits of a good leader also correspond to the qualities inherent in each of the seven chakras in our subtle system.
