Seven Questions Leaders Ask to Create New Success

Years ago, I was invited to speak at a manager's conference. My part was to deliver a half-day workshop on Emotional Intelligence for empowering leaders. We had a great morning outlining the critical keys to increase their skills of self-awareness, self-management of emotions, and how to effectively connect and empower their team.
In the afternoon, the CEO of the company had all the managers discuss seven questions to create new success if tomorrow you are appointed CEO:
1. What would you focus on in the first thirty days?
2. Do you have a current vision of what we should achieve in 12 months?
3. What are your core– four priorities of the vision?
4. How will you present your "best shot" of explaining your vision in three minutes?
5. How would you go about "selling" the vision to our company?
6. What is our competitive advantage as a company?
7. What current practices can we "let go" of in order to "go up"?
By days end, after an energizing discussion, all of the managers and the CEO were able to agree upon a new vision and define success for the next 12-24 months.
Now may be the perfect time to discuss and agree upon a new vision. Take some time to use these seven questions to sharpen your vision. Remember what Alice in Wonderland said: "if you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there."
- We need to know where we are going as a team
- We need to know what road will get us there
- We need to know everyone on our team knows our vision
Your vision doesn't need to be perfect but it does need to be clear.
"Vision is a picture of the future which creates passion in the present."
