The global staffroom
TES is a huge resource base, full of committed teachers, teaching assistants and educational resource makers, happy to share the vast majority of their work for free to benefit pupils' learning. A powerful use of this TES resource bank is that teachers from a wide range of experiences, schools and countries can come together to share ideas, resources and practical experience in a 'global staffroom'.
My resources
I have been adding resources to TES for the past 6 years. I create high quality resources mainly for primary schools. I have a wide range of Maths, spellings, grammar, RE, science and general resources that are, for the most part, free to download for anyone. Teachers' mindsets are very much focussed on being public and pupil servants. In talking to friends in the private field, the idea of giving away this level of intellectual property is strange. And even when it is sold, at prices far less than what a market rate would sell them for them.
This mindset is also evident in that teachers will buy these resources out of the their pocket and not claim the cost back from schools. The concept of putting claims in and being reimbursed is strangely alien to the teaching profession. It is accepted as a cost of the profession, but of course should not be. That is why so many teachers who sell their resources take this into account when setting pricing. My latest set of resources on the World Cup took me four days to complete, but can be bought for just ￡10 for the full set. I also offer free samples and a reduced price for parts of it from just ￡3
It is because of the dedication and skills of so many teachers that this site exists and is so successful. Contributors are very well supported by the TES Global team and this, in turn, helps the resource base flourish. Teachers know what pupils need. Teachers are committed to providing the very best learning opportunities for all the pupil they serve. Teachers' dedication and skills are celebrated in this site.
