Seven Key Financial Metrics

I attended a webinar starring Alan Miltz, the co-author of the Cash section of the book Scaling Up by Vern Harnish. About half of the 60 minutes was sales pitch (so it wasn’t free – I paid with my attention). The other 30 minutes were gold. Bellrock is an enthusiastic fan of Miltz and his software Cash Flow Story – a subscription-based financial analysis software that generates comprehensive, easy to understand managerial accounting reports for our clients. Among many other things, Miltz asserts the paradox that:

• Financial reporting is unnecessarily complex in the small and mid-sized business world causing managers to not understand / misunderstand / avoid delving into reports.
• What gets measured gets managed and it is critical that managers understand financial reporting.

Inflation, rising interest rates, tight labour market, supply chain issues…it’s getting rather hectic out here. You got into business to make money. You need to understand the money.
