SEVEN 2024 HIRING TRENDS

SEVEN 2024 HIRING TRENDS

No one has to tell you the job market is in constant flux . But what does it mean for you in the coming year? What you need to know is toplined here, aggregated from (11) expert resources (see below) to help you stay ahead.

Here they are:

AI is accelerating workplace changes and hiring is no exeception. LinkedIn saw a 2.2X increase in jobs posted globally mentioning AI in the last two years and a 17% faster growth in applicants for job posts that mention AI vs. those that don't

Sectors with the sharpest declines in postings; software development -51.3%, human resources -35.3%, media & communication -35.%, banking & finance - 33.2% and marketing -32.7%

Remote jobs have become much scarcer, but they haven’t disappeared. They continue to thrive at mid-sized and small companies. People leaders are divided on whether it’s harder to build trust on remote teams: 44%“disagreed” or “strongly disagreed” 38% “agreed” or “strongly agreed”.

26% of companies said promotional increases are budgeted separately from other salary increases. 29% said they were included in their annual salary increase budget and 45% said they don't budget for promotional increases. Promotion increase budget (as a % of payroll) expected to be 3.3% in 2024

That truth bomb about 5 generations in the workforce... knowing your audience has never been more important.

“...it’s easy to look at AI as a tool that’s going to take away parts of our work,

Simply put, AI is helping people focus more on the people part of work, and why we see 70% of U.S. executives agree that soft skills are more valuable to their organization than AI skills”

Ryan Roslansky CEO of LinkedIn

LinkedIn data reveals recruiters on the platform search for candidates by their skills 5Xs more often than by their degrees.

And the share of LinkedIn job postings that didn’t require a professional degree grew by 36% over the course of 2022.

In 2024, more candidates will be vetted by specific capabilities and transferable skills. Data engineers without computer science degrees. Sales consultants without business backgrounds

Skills-based hiring is going to impact entry-level and mid-level job seekers more than high-level executives and C-Suite, Loren Greiff, where the priorities remain on emotional competencies as well as broad understanding of how disciplines interplay to advance organizational progress.

Thanks for sharing Loren Greiff! #7 is spot on re: hiring for skills rather than solely where you've been. This changes the approach to the market now (and in the future) for the better.
