If we were explaining what we do to a 5-year-old, we would say we make it easy for people who create things with computers to price and sell the things they create.

We are building a dynamic monetization platform for SaaS businesses, starting with pricing and packaging APIs. Stage enables fast-growing software companies to measure, control, and experiment with monetization to convert customers and grow revenue faster than ever before. We create visibility and control for product and go-to-market teams while minimizing the engineering effort and cost of building and maintaining plans, packaging, trials, paywalls, and more. We help product-led software companies build confidence that they are capturing all the value they are creating without sacrificing roadmap.

The characters

Let's unpack a use case from the point of view of an experienced engineer at a software company —?Sarah Connor. Like every senior engineer, she's part of a tech company that is responsible for shipping a product of the future. And like all tech companies, her tech company has some great ideas (like robots and AI) and a vague notion of how they are going to make money from those ideas. Sarah has a mission: ship the future and don’t let anything get in her way. It's hard work that takes deep thought. While she is doing this hard work, Sarah is destined to be inundated with a growing backlog of requests from every non-engineering team: turn off a feature for this customer, change this paywall, downgrade that user, make this feature an add-on, extend a trial for this customer, and so on. Sarah and the engineering team are so frequently distracted and disrupted that they build internal tools to fix the problem (or, at least, they would fix the problem if they weren’t breaking all of the time). We are here to help Sarah take those off her plate while also giving her company a brand new competitive advantage and control — monetization agility.

We help Sarah and her team ask and answer questions such as: Which products and features are the most valuable? To whom? How often are they used? How should we package them? Who should get them? How do we know? How can we test it quickly?

The plot

Monetization is where product and distribution meet, and it is critical to the success of every software product. Pricing touches every role and function, but “the rubber meets the road” in the software itself. As companies experience product success and learn from the market, they want to better measure, evolve, and test their pricing and packaging to encourage adoption, deepen engagement, and grow revenue. They want to be confident that they are capturing all the value they are creating.

At Stage, we believe that the uncertainty and doubt in software pricing and packaging stem from a lack of data and flexible infrastructure. It can overwhelm and challenge even the best teams and companies. Confidence can only be built through greater clarity and control. There is no such thing as “the right price” as products, customers, competitors, and markets are always growing and evolving. We believe pricing should be built to grow and evolve alongside customer preferences and the market.
