Setting SMART goals

Setting SMART goals

The beginning of each year is the ideal time to plan what you would like to achieve at the end of the year as an individual family or organization. The whole process is known as goal setting. Your success at the end of the year will largely depend on how you set your goals.

The important factor that significantly contributes to failure to achieve our goals is the wrong way of setting goals. To avoid this pitfall, always set a SMART goal.

The SMART acronym outlines a strategy for reaching any objective. SMART goals are?Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and anchored within a Time Frame.

?Example of Time Management SMART goal:

Goal: I will prevent being late to work this week by setting my alarm 30 minutes earlier each morning and leaving 15 minutes earlier than I used to leave.

S:?What is specific about the goal is arriving at work on time.

M:?What is measurable is 30 extra minutes in the morning, and 15 extra minutes of travel time.

A:?What makes the goal achievable is that the changes are not drastic.

R:?What makes the goal realistic is that both changes contribute to being on time.

T:?The time frame is one week.

Hope this goal-setting principle will help you set a SMART goal and achieve all your objectives at the end of the year.

Happy New Year!
