Setting Realistic Expectations in Network Marketing

Setting Realistic Expectations in Network Marketing

Are you already involved with a network marketing company or thinking about joining one in the near future? Have you seriously thought about your expectations when it comes to getting involved in one? Are your expectations realistic? Many times people get started in network marketing and quit because success doesn't happen fast enough. However, would you expect to start a new business and make a 6 figure income in 3 months? Probably not. So why is network marketing any different? Realistically to achieve results it takes time and effort. Getting involved with the right business partner and setting expectations upfront is extremely important for long-term growth and success.

Dealing with Rejection and Negativity

Unfortunately, there are still a lot of people who have a negative view of network marketing. They've heard negative news stories, had bad personal experiences, or are simply misinformed. And they are some of the hardest prospects to talk to. Or you hear the common objections such as…"I don't have enough money and time to start my own business. Plus, I'm not good at sales." Sure, your prospect may think that now, but he or she will have much more free time once in control of each hour in the day. When it comes to selling, you are simply presenting a solution to a problem or desire. Mostly everyone is able to help other people solve their problems. Some people may want the help while others may not.

Before you deal with rejection and negativity, you have to understand that your daily habits will make you or break you. Are you consistently doing the work daily to see the results down the road or just complaining about things? Especially in sales, rejection is part of the process. Fear of rejection is common, especially if you are just learning how to sell yourself and sell your product or service. It's important that you posture yourself for success and have the right mindset to get past the negativity and rejection.

When you step out of the norm and out of your comfort zone, you are going to be criticized and rejected. If you are easily influenced or swayed when someone is negative or cynical or skeptical or criticizes what you're doing, you need to really do a checkup and ask yourself if you really want to succeed. Everyone has haters if you do anything worth mentioning. If you live a life of any impact, you are going to be criticized, you're going to be hated on, you're going to have people be jealous of you and they turn that jealousy and they twist it into you being somehow ethically, morally inferior to them. It's just par for the course.

What to Never Say to Your Prospects

The network marketing profession does not guarantee anything. It all depends on you. If you want to reach a certain income level, then you have to be consistent, put in the effort, and work hard. You have to keep going even when the going gets tough. You have to commit to learning the skills and you have to be determined to do everything you can to reach your goals. Isn't this how it goes with anything worth it in life? Network marketing is no different. One thing you NEVER want to do is tell your prospects they could get rich quick. This is not a get rich quick scheme, so saying something like that is setting them up for frustration. You can let your prospect know that it is very possible to get rich in network marketing and make a great living in this profession, but it is all up to the time and hard work they choose to put in.

What you do want to do is set proper, realistic expectations with your prospects. If they sign up thinking that it will be easy and they'll make tons of money in the first month, then they are going to be easily discouraged. And when they get discouraged like that, they are more likely to quit. It's important to represent the network marketing profession well. So, never tell prospects that it will be easy and that they can get rich quick. Tell them the truth. Tell them that it will take dedication, consistency, hard work, and it may take time for them to see results. But it is definitely worth it.

What You Should Put Your Efforts and Focus On

There will always be negative people around any business you are involved with, and network marketing isn't any different. Focus on the people who love the products, service, team, culture, community, leadership, etc. that you have to offer. Focus on the people who are open to learning more about what you have to offer. What you represent as a mission, how you're impacting and helping others, the benefits of your product or service or opportunity…focus on those people that are looking to get help with their problems.
