#1. Setting positive examples as a leader

Leadership is a serious business, but that doesn't mean we can't have a bit of fun while we're at it. So, let's talk about the importance of setting a positive example as a leader, but let's do it with a bit of humour.

Have you ever heard the phrase, "monkey see, monkey do?" Well, it applies to leaders too. When you're in a position of power, people are watching you. Your words, actions, and attitude all have an impact on those around you. So, if you're grumpy, negative, or rude, don't be surprised if your team starts to follow suit.

On the other hand,?if you're positive, energetic, and kind, your team will be more likely to mirror those behaviors. That's why it's essential to set a positive example as a leader.

Now, I know what you're thinking. "But I'm the boss. I can act however I want." Well, technically, yes, you can. But that doesn't mean it's a good idea. You see, when you're a leader, you have a responsibility to your team. You're not just there to bark orders and collect a pay-check.?You're there to inspire, motivate, and guide your team towards success.

And the best way to do that is by setting a positive example. When you show up to work with a smile on your face, when you greet your team members with enthusiasm, and when you tackle challenges with a can-do attitude, you're demonstrating the kind of behaviour you want to see in your team.

Doug McMillon, CEO of Walmart, has been recognized for his focus on employee development and growth. He has led by example by starting his career at Walmart as an associate and working his way up to the CEO position, demonstrating the company's commitment to promoting from within and supporting employee growth.

Let me narrate a small story to you:?

There was a leader named Jaya. She had a team of colleagues who always seemed to be dragging their feet and complaining about their work. Jaya was determined to turn things around and set a positive example for her team.

She started by waking up early every morning to practice her positive affirmations in the mirror. "I am a great leader. My team is awesome. Today is going to be a fantastic day!" she would chant to herself. It may have seemed a bit silly, but it really helped her start the day on the right foot.

Next, Jaya decided to create a "happy corner" in the office. She put up some bright, cheerful posters and brought in a jar of candy for her team to enjoy. Whenever someone was feeling down, she would guide them to the happy corner for a little pick-me-up. It was like a mini vacation from the stresses of work.

One day, one of Jaya's team member came to her with a problem. "Jaya, I'm feeling really overwhelmed," she said. "I don't know how to handle all of this work."

Jaya didn't skip a beat. "No problem!" she exclaimed. "Let's take a quick dance break to get our energy up, and then we'll tackle this together!"???They laughed and danced a couple of bit, and then got back to work with renewed energy.

As time went on, Jaya's positive attitude started to rub off on her team. They started arriving to work with smiles on their faces and tackling their tasks with enthusiasm. The office became a more positive and productive place, all thanks to Jaya's leadership.

The essence of the story???As a leader, it's important to set the tone for your team and create a work environment that fosters positivity and productivity. And hey, who doesn't love a good dance and candy break now and then?

I have experienced many of these things myself while leading a team at my workplace and it can work like a wonder.?

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, has been lauded for his collaborative leadership style and his commitment to sustainability. He has led by example by promoting a culture of collaboration and making sustainability a core value of the company.

Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, has been known for his leadership style that emphasizes empathy and inclusivity. He has led by example by actively promoting diversity and inclusion within the company and by sharing his own personal experiences with empathy.

Smile, be courteous, and treat people with respect. Be willing to listen to feedback and open to new ideas. Encourage your team to be innovative and to take risks. Celebrate their successes and help them learn from their failures.

But setting a positive example isn't just about being upbeat and energetic. It's also about being kind, respectful, and empathetic. When you treat your team members with dignity and respect, when you listen to their ideas and concerns, and when you show empathy towards their struggles, you're creating a culture of kindness and support.

And don't forget to have fun!?Laughter is infectious and can help create a positive atmosphere in the workplace. Crack jokes, share funny stories, and create opportunities for team-building activities that allow your team to connect and bond.

Setting a positive example as a leader isn't just the right thing to do; it's also the smart thing to do. When you show up to work with a positive attitude and treat your team members with kindness and respect,?you're creating a culture that fosters productivity,?creativity, and success. So, go ahead, lead by example, and let your inner monkey shine.
