Setting goals for 2022

Setting goals for 2022

If someone told you that the whole world would come to a stop, you’d totally have to change the way you lived your life, did your work, and interacted with everyone on the planet, you’d probably think that person’s not in his right mind.

But it’s 2022, the pandemic stretches on, and people have had to live with A LOT of changes.

With all the uncertainty that we’ve had to go through, setting goals may seem like the last thing we’d want to put effort into.

Before you get tempted into simply surviving yet another year of uncertainties, you have to realize that planning to accomplish things makes us human beings feel more alive.

In “Man’s Search for Meaning,” Viktor Frankl teaches us that: He who has a “why” to live for can bear almost any “how.”

You’ll have more fulfillment and a deeper sense of purpose when you’re moving toward something bigger.?

You just have to tweak a couple of things in setting this year’s goals to adapt to what the world’s thrown at you lately.

Make a difference in your 2022 with this simple guide. Let’s get to it!

1.??One step at a time.

While it’s tempting to set grand goals to “start the year with a bang” it’d be better to pace yourself.

You only have to look back at the past two years to realize that the only thing constant is the mutation of the virus into different variants.

What we’re trying to say is: TAKE IT EASY.?

Instead of aiming for life-changing moments,?set smaller goals that allow you to focus better and promote action.

The more you accomplish, the better you feel about yourself. The better you feel about yourself, the more motivated you’ll be to achieve more.

2.??Design the journey.

As the saying goes:?“It’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey.”

Imagine how you’ll reach your goals, determine the steps, and write them down. Attaining them is the end result. It’s the culmination of lessons learned, pains overcome, and potential reached.

Put emphasis on savoring the people you’ll meet, the experiences you’ll have, and the emotions you’ll feel WHILE you’re taking the steps toward your finish line.?

In doing so, you’ll keep tabs of the more important things. Lessons stick with you for a long time.

3.??Be intentional.

SMART goals are the gold standard of goal-setting.

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable
  • Relevant
  • Time-based

This is and always will be an efficient way to get your head in the game. However, just think of all the changes you’ve had to deal with since 2020:

You have to wear a mask when you go out. What used to be an hour or two of commuting to your office has now become a couple of steps towards your designated WFH station. Kids are staring into screens instead of participating in a fun, loud classroom.?

Putting things in this perspective, setting SMART goals can be a bit tedious and rigid.

Re-examine yourself, really look into what you want for yourself, and work towards that. We’re already living with so much right now, maybe you’d just like to live healthily and peacefully. That’s not so bad either!

4.??Recognize how far you’ve come.

In his book,?“The Gap and The Gain,”?Dan Sullivan show us that there are three reference points in our self-improvement journey:

  • Our initial self – Where we started.
  • Our current self – Where we are right now.
  • Our ideal self – Where we’d like to be.

He teaches us that instead of measuring ourselves with what we want to accomplish (future), we should measure ourselves backwards (past).?

?This enables us to realize how far we’ve come and will motivate us more since we’ll have a view of how much we’ve improved instead of how much more we should do. This is an easy way to stay in a positive mindset!?

5.?Be kind to yourself.

?Remember that?goals are just guides.?

They’re not the be-all and end-all of your life and existence.??

By setting them up, you’re prompting yourself to learn, create strategies that dictate your future, and ultimately be successful only by the standards you’ve set.

We hope that these can help you launch a better version of yourself for 2022. We have more in store so watch out for our blogs and other materials.

We’ll catch you soon, buddy!
