Set this year up for success

Follow these really simple, but highly effective steps that show that you are personally interested in each one of your team, that they matter, and that you are committed to supporting them in the achievement of their goals. If they feel that you truly care and listen to their individual and team needs, you can be assured they will enable your goals for the year.

1.??????At your first meeting ask the following three questions to each one of your team:

  • What was a highlight for you over the Festive Season (and if they are willing to share, ask them one personal NY’s resolution)?
  • What is one goal you have for the team this year?
  • What do you expect of me to help us achieve that?

2.??????Have an individual meeting with each one of the team and ask them to prepare three answers to discuss:

  • What is a personal goal you want to achieve this year?
  • What is a career goal you want to achieve this year?
  • What can I do to support you to achieve those goals?

3.??????Have a second meeting with the whole team where you summarise the goals of the team and what you commit to so you can help them achieve their goals.

  • Share with them your goals for the team and for the organisation
  • Discuss the alignment between all the goals
  • Get the team to agree on their main goal for the year

4.??????Lastly, be sure to revisit often

  • Provide the team with training and coaching to succeed
  • Remind them of their vision and goals every time you meet, but also adjust to change
  • Keep track and celebrate milestone successes
  • Get yourself a coach and be a coach to your team. Find someone and be someone who really cares and provides support to facilitate growth and achievement of goals

The reasons why these steps will ensure success is because team wellbeing will be promoted, your team will see that you care, and they will feel supported. These activities will create clarity of share expectations, and it’s a useful way of guiding people to think outside of their comfort zone and keep everyone accountable.

If people feel that they matter and they are supported, they will be loyal and supportive to your goals. It’s a win-win really!
