The set list - the start of something bigger
If you are a band manager then this week will have seen scraps of paper with hasty scrawls of half written titles - and from others, neatly printed A4 white paper sheets - one for every band member.
I come from the 2nd category but as an artist manager myself I saw another need. I created a set list software as part of the Talent1 artist management system, a cloud application, that stores all the songs. You can create multiple set lists, some that are dated for a one-off event; or the most common use is for the 'current set lists' which still gets modified frequently. You can print the set list or use it on your iPad/tablet. When you click the song title you can see the lyrics, the chords or whatever notes you wish to make.
"It's Been Done Before" - Yes
... but I had another purpose. Or in fact a few:
- As a manager, I now have that list of song titles that I keep asking for (but don't get) so that I can register them with PRS/MCPS.
- I now have the lyrics that I can submit with a video to the TV channels
For covers bands, it gives the information, with songwriting credits, ready to fill in the PRS sheet after the performance. Well, that's true for non-covers bands too.
As a list, it also is a handy tool for putting sample set list on the website. It links to the WEB1 CMS and so is easy to update as often as you wish. And as with all our applications, there is also a widget that can be used on any website (Wordpress, Wix, Joomla - whatever you use). The example here took no extra effort to put on the artist website. You can see the Motown/Soul covers set list in the example above is also on the artists website. Just tick a box and it's published.
or in this example, tick 2 boxes ....
And then you can also autograph the printed set lists and give them to your fans - and in years to come it will be worth a fortune like the one at the top this page!
