Set Goals That Empower Your People ??

According to Doug Forbes (the Co-Founder at Privacy Specialists and a Master of Strategic Planning), project management, program management and business planning at the top level will give the structure to achieving your goals.

Additionally, it will help you come up with specific and organised strategies.?

  1. A great place to start when creating strategies would be to put down the objective on paper and note down everything that needs to occur for you to achieve that outcome. For example, if you want to achieve goal A, identify everything necessary to accomplish that.
  2. Now, take each and refine them into something very measurable and clear. Where possible, assign a?baseline for each of these strategies so people can measure the movement their actions are making. For example - if one strategy is to create 100 sales leads per month, identifying that current activities create 35 is a valuable baseline to measure the success of actions taken in this strategy.?
  3. Then, take each of these strategies and assign them to an owner who is best positioned to oversee and execute that strategy. It isn't their job to necessarily complete it, but to ensure it gets completed.?

Doug shares his tips on how you can empower and develop your employees to execute their strategies effectively:

Tip 1: Mentor Your Employees

  • With each strategy you assign to an employee, evaluate what support you expect them to need.?
  • Identify what coaching and development they require to successfully achieve this and ensure it is something that you can provide support to them on, or they have access to someone that can provide them with the required support.

Tip 2: Test Your Employees to Develop Them

  • Doug equates the mentorship process to swimming. While you support your employees, you must test them to see if they can swim faster or better every now and then. This means pushing them out of their comfort zone which could result in failure. However, you have to be there to hold their hands if they stumble and become stuck.?
  • Eventually, you’ll find that they’ve grown and have become more independent and more capable. This is a benefit to them, you and the business.?

Did You Know This Type of Planning is Beneficial to The Wider Organisation?

When you have such clear planning with defined strategies to achieve along with the exact people that will take ownership of each, you can make it extremely easy for:

1) Project manager to plan the specifics

2) CFOs to plan the budget for each strategy as there’s a proper structure

Most importantly, this plan will help your organisation prepare for any shortfalls. For example, this will allow you to go to the sales department and ask them to increase profits to help support the organisation when there’s a cash crunch.
