SET BOUNDARIES

Everything on earth has an entry and exit point. That is how God programmed creation.

What builds or destroys a thing often goes first through its entry. In simple terms, nothing can destroy a thing if it does not first have access to its entry point. A thing is therefore as strong as the health of its entrance.

The human body has two major physical points; the mouth and the anus. The mouth takes in food whereas the anus dispenses waste which the body does not need. Everything that helps build the body physically has to arguably go through the mouth and anything that is not needed is released by the anus.

Aside from the two major places in the human body, there is the human mind. It is the mind which gives us a consciousness of where we are and ought to function in the human body. It is the mind that houses our emotions.

A healthy person is one who is not fit just in the body but in the mind. In simple terms, if a person is sound, it would be seen in his disposition, i.e. how he dresses, speaks, and behaves.

In his famous collected wise sayings popularly known as Proverbs, Solomon the Wise shares some very important truths about the health of the human body. He first states that a human being has a gate which is an entrance and then he has a wall. In fact, he states that every human being is like a city.

Whoever?has?no rule over his own spirit is like?a city broken down, without walls.

Proverbs 25:28

In Solomon's proverb, he shares that if you have a beautiful covering, which we can call the body but you do not protect your emotions from being contaminated, your beautiful body would begin decaying and eventually result in the loss of its glory. What does he propose as the antidote to keeping one's glory? He says, set boundaries.

Things get destroyed not from the outside but from the inside. However, it is the things that get inside from the outside that have the capacity to bring destruction to an individual, thing, or entity, i.e. an organization.

Setting boundaries does not mean you have no regard for others. No. It means you prioritize your health over and above any other person or thing. Setting boundaries simply gives whoever wants to engage you or your services information that there are certain thresholds they cannot cross if they expect the best from you.

Everyone has a beautiful life but if boundaries and gates are not put in place to protect what you have, you risk becoming an easy target for robbers who may not necessarily come off with guns, machetes, and knives but in suits, with the motive of draining you and leaving you with nothing.

In chasing things that make us comfortable, let us keep in mind that if our inner selves get polluted, our outer selves would show it in a matter of time.

Guard what you have on the inside.

God bless you.
