Session 6: Situational detachment VS angles unknown

Monday morning sitting overlooking Hyde Park with Dr.Rakish after a busy commute through Mayfair, we immediately started to discuss the business.

I had around eight updates perhaps I wanted to discuss and was feeling ready to take on the world, out of the eight updates, around 3 of them was not great news and five pieces of phenomenal news.

He asked me, `How do I feel the business going?” I replied, “Phenomenal but I just wish people conducted themselves the same way in which I try too.”

He asked me “Why is that? what are you frustrated about?”

From all the techniques I had learnt from Dr.Rakish, for example taking purposeful pauses throughout the day, changing the language I use, valuing oneself, learning to be efficient with my time, truly focusing on the narrative in which I'm telling myself.

I had learnt to control the frustration, so I replied “I’m not frustrated, I feel quite distant actually, I don’t feel anything towards it, the negatives in life I understand are only temporary and that can all be changed.

My reaction is 90% of the issue and I refuse to become that person who is like a sailing boat in the storm of my own mind, twisted and pushed side to side with every blow of the wind of life.

He said “You seem very detached from the situation indeed and that is great, he went on to explain that it's probably through years of my mediation, I must quite capable of controlling my reactions to various situations and really take an impartial viewpoint on things.”

I knew in my mind, yes a lot of it I’m sure did come through meditation over the years, but the leaps and strides I have gained with Dr.Rakish’s careful guidance and coaching, it has been invaluable.

Sometimes we are like a supercar waiting at the start line and your life coach is the one who shows you how to put the key in the engine and how to change gears as you get to speed, advises of the corners and teaches you about the safety gear.

It may sound obvious but so many of us entrepreneurs fail to get past the start line, let alone speed through the finish line, 'these little golden threads of wisdom, helping me spin the web of my life.'

Life has taught me to bide my time and not react to imbeciles and immature behaviour which unfortunately is rife within the creative industry.

I once gave a speech comparing it to a playground of school children who all feel they should sing first at the school concert, when I on the other hand would rather sell t-shirts of those contestants at the entrance, not really caring who won, fame is very different from fortune and ego is a blinding light in which I choose not to look into.

We went on to discuss view points, angles of looking at things and it really got me thinking, the business is going great, recently for example, we have been asked to be the official clothing brand they will wear on a “Netflix Original Series” which is absolutely phenomenal as Netflix has a viewership on some series of around 80 million people, so its an exciting direction for us, then I thought, so

How will these viewers view VAYYU?

What angle do the view the VAYYU from?

What angle will they view our products from?

To the hyper wealthy customer which we have, we are probably an affordable brand which they would wear to the gym and relax at home in, to a person who doesn’t earn anywhere near that maybe we are that out of reach hyper brand such as Gucci and Burberry to them?

All different angles, all perspective are true considering the situation and circumstances, all are subjective.

My task for the next few week is to look at all angles, to consider all perspectives and to really refine the brands angle, not defined by the views of the world, but by the understanding of my own mind and really follow the inner essence of VAYYU and where it is leading me.

I feel I have gained massive patience whilst running the company and ‘grit' if you could call it that, in business sense over these last few years, making sure not to judge every book by it's cover but to always consider all the angles unknown with situational detachment.

Thank you.
