?? Session 2 of the presentation bootcamp ??
After out impressive start, we met last week for the 2nd round of the presentation training.
The homework this time was again attempting to push the participants out of the comfort zone. This time to the other end: 3 slides with at least 10 bullet-points each. Also I shared a video that I feel contains very good ideas to improve your presentation skills:
(Thanks very much D K for doing this TED Talk! It was really inspiring, entertaining and helpful at the same time!)
- Did you guess the assignment right? If no, there is another chance: Have a guess what’s up next! -
The presentations this time were perceived very different by the audience as well as by the speakers themselves.
After each presentation we took again some time for self reflection and feedback. One obvious observation in all cases was that the audience really had issues to follow the speaker because everyone was distracted by the bullet-points. One could see their eyes flipping between the slide and the presenter or just staring at the slide. Many presenters shared that they felt less flexible with the bullet-points and under pressure to cover all of them. Many speakers also got distracted themselves as the where lost and tried to find their way back to the right bullet-point. (To quote D K : “Bullet points kill attention”) On the other hand some reported that they felt safer from blackouts when having the bullet points.
Again I did received very positive feedback and everyone appreciated the feedback and insights on how his presentation was perceived by the audience as well as the “bullet point” experience.
Looking forward to continue this journey with this energised and engaged group! If you got interested I am happy to share more details.
