Serving a unique purpose!
I remember my first job after college. I was worried about making a big mistake or doing something that would get me fired. So, I started asking my direct project lead for his opinion. Until one day, he told me, "You should not be asking people's opinions. That makes you look weak and like you don't trust yourself. Don't do that," he said. I wondered, "Okay, then how am I supposed to know if I'm doing things correctly or not?"
Now, after 20 years working as a Manager in the oil and gas industry, I understand how important it is to provide and receive feedback, coaching, and validation. I also recognize the difference between the three. In detail, coaching is a process of guiding a person toward self-discovery and growth. Feedback provides information about performance or behavior, and validation involves acknowledging and affirming a person's thoughts or feelings. While they serve different purposes, when used together, they can contribute to a comprehensive and effective approach to personal and professional development.
In the next few weeks, I will detail and develop a proper concept and understanding of feedback, coaching, and validation.
