ServiceNow Pre-Clone Backup Checklist

Before cloning a ServiceNow instance, ensure critical configurations and data are backed up locally. While clone exclusions, data preservers, and ServiceNow automatic backups help prevent losses, local backups provide extra protection in case anything fails. This checklist helps ServiceNow Admins & Platform Owners secure key configurations efficiently.

Checklist of Important Objects to Backup

?? Configuration and Customizations

• Update Sets (In progress / Completed & not in prod)
• API Configuration (REST/SOAP configurations & credentials)
• Scheduled Jobs
• Email account configurations
• LDAP Server
• Custom Application not in prod
• SN application & related datas not in prod (might be ATF, Agile)

?? User Data and Preferences

• Users (sys_user)
• Users favorites (sys_ui_bookmark)
• Group Roles (sys_group_has_role)
• Users Roles (for specific roles likes security_admin, admin as most roles are supposed to be assigned to the Group)
