Preface

Servant leadership can seem like a contradicting term, but it is becoming a very popular tool in many businesses. Servant leadership is a philosophy that involves focusing on others (i.e. your employees), and focus on their success, and in turn build better professional relationships that can benefit both manager and employee. Servant leadership shows that managers can be great leaders while boosting their employee’s confidence and further their success at the same time.

What is Servant Leadership?

Servant leadership is a business philosophy that emphasizes the act of the leader, such as a manager or supervisor, focusing on the growth and development of their employees and ensuring their success. In doing so, the leader succeeds when their employees do. In a business team, servant leadership cannot only help employees achieve and grow, but it can also benefit their leaders and the company as a whole.

A Desire to Serve

It is a leader’s responsibility to guide their followers on the right path. But to become a better leader, it’s not enough just to take the wheel and steer – you must also be willing to serve your followers and assist them in their own journey. A servant leader should have a desire to serve their employees, which includes taking the time to identify your employees and how they perform or being beside them as they face challenges. Take the time to assist in their growth and help them work toward achieving their goals. Don’t be afraid to give yourself into their processes and become part of their evolvement.

Mr Dan, for this Style of Leadership to work, the Leader should? introspect on How he became a Leader, Who took him there and How did they take him there and more importantly how did he FEEL during his journey. The answers he receives will help him to 'give back' to? his followers. This makes this Style of Leadership a business 'Philosophy'. Also, he should know himself ...Who am I? During his interactions with his followers, he should Observe the pattern of behaviour, mood swings etc of his followers and understand how he should move closer to them as in a 'friendship' and 'relationship' to bring out the best of each one and develop their Strengths. Take time to assist them in their work, provide them Space to ask questions,so that they empower themselves and align with the Values, Vision and Mission of their Organisation. He should put their needs first. He should LISTEN and PAY ATTENTION, be compassionate, have care, empathy, appreciate and recognise their achievements and even reward them. Getting FEEDBACK from his followers in realtime is very important. He should involve his followers in dissecting the FEEDBACK and help them finding solutions by themselves. Everyone's voice should be heard and constant interaction is a must. By doing this, his followers will see that their work is moving in the right direction, and many of them will see for themselves the need to Change because they have experienced it. This also helps their 'Decision making'.?
