In the study "Effect of Serum Fibrinogen,Total Stent Lenght, and Type of Acute Coronary Sndrome on 6-Month Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events and Bleedin After Percutaneous Coronary Intervention" by Ehtisham Mahmud MD,Mattheus Ramsis BS,Omid Behnamfar MD et al published in Am J. Cardiol.2016;117:1575-1581 showed that in 387 patients with acute coronary syndrome(ACS) who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention and followed for 6 months after multivariate analysis a fibrinogen level equal to or greater than 280mg/dl had an odds ratio(OR) 2.60(95% CI 1.33 to 5.11,p=0.005)
My comment;Serum fibrinogen is an independent marker of inflammation and has been shown to be associated with increased risk of coronary heart disease and stroke. In a large meta-analysis published in JAMA(Fibrinogen Studies Collaboration.2005;294:1799-1809) involving 1.38 million person years of followup for every 1g/L increase of fibrinogen the HR for coronary heart disease was 2.42,for stroke HR 1.8
