Serious Measures - When? and Why Not?

Putting politics and other distractions aside, can somebody help me to understand why these specific actions are not underway in the U.S.? Or are they underway?

1. Reduce human interactions to family or household groups. Ten seems like too many to me.

2. Close all non-essential businesses, but allow certain businesses to continue to offer curbside service under very specific safety requirements. Bars and restaurants should not remain open.

3. Close every school, every pre-school, every private school, every university programs, but continue to organize food and other family services under the safest possible guidelines. And work very hard on anything related to remote work.

4. Governors, mayors and Feds: please let us know your plan to handle potentially large increases in the need for hospital beds, respirators, staff, replacement staff, transportation, community information. Please update daily.

5. Feds: please work out an equitable income replacement plan immediately so that everyone can support items 1-4 above. We need to know the plan this week, but you can wait until next Monday for full implementation.

6. Librarians, teachers, others who work with children: can we start setting up Zoom story hours and similar education activities on a massive scale? (Internet service providers: please do all you can to empower lower-income households to be able to receive this, and the whole internet.)

7. Fed, on behalf of supply chain: what is the plan for a sufficient number of masks, respirators, a steady supply of food and medicine? Please update weekly, or more often as necessary.

8. Feds: please begin building temporary hospitals, whether via FEMA or other means. Since. the parks are closed, maybe they're going to be useful. Let us know your progress, day by day because this kind of progress demonstrates preparedness and lifts our spirits.

9. White House: please organize your daily briefings so they are specific, actionable, well-coordinated with governors and mayors and other institutions, and demonstrate measurable progress. It would be helpful to feature only the people who are running each project. The President & Vice President are very busy, and need not appear in a daily briefing. Once a week, or upon major milestones, but that's all.

10. Governors and mayors: daily briefings, please. And do include your local teams.

11. News media: please continue to provide up-to-date information and analysis. Some of your views into the future are helpful, but when they're too subjective, or too speculative, they confuse us and cause panic. Continue to use good judgment, and help us to understand the real situation.

12. International contributors: It is so helpful to see Italy, Spain, Taiwan, etc. The trends, the actions, the gaps, the concerns, all help to building understanding and confidence. Thank you, Johns Hopkins and all the rest for updating an accurate puzzle on a regular basis.

I'm sure I am missing some important puzzle pieces, but these are the items that I hope to see every time I obsessively scan a half-dozen news sites.

Be safe. Be well. Stay home.
