A Series Of Unfortunate Events

If you like Wes Anderson and Neil Patrick Harris you will love A Series Of Unfortunate Events

Don't confuse the title for something that went horribly wrong with my Netflix account. It is actually quite the opposite. I had the pleasure of screening the first four episodes of their new original entitled "A Series Of Unfortunate Events" based on the children's book by Lemony Snicket.

As you will recall there was an adaptation for the big screen in 2004 starring Jim Carrey playing the villainous Count Olaf who is replaced in this series by the amazing Neil Patrick Harris.

The series is centred around the tragic death of the Boudelaire's who leave their three children, Violet, Klaus and Sunny, in the hands of an evil guardian named Count Olaf who's intent is to get his hands on the "Baudelaire Fortune".

With each episode the children must outwit and out smart the Count at every turn foiling his plans as he disguises himself as other characters.

I can't help to compare the beauty of the visual elements of this TV Series to feel very much like Wes Anderson had a lot of influence, even though his name is nowhere to be seen. Its bold, quirky and delightful.

I started watching this last week and I couldn't get into it. I was really excited about the potential of this series and was ready to settle into a binge session but it didn't quite pique my interest like the movie did. I might watch another episode before tossing this one aside, since "first impressions are often entirely wrong." - LS I did appreciate the Wes Anderson 'feel' that you observed. I'm surprised that he has nothing to do with the series. Perhaps he goes by an alias... or maybe I'm just anxiously waiting for his next film...
