Series 7
Gen 45 ?7?But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant?on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance. ?
Immediately Joseph was appointed, not only was he promoted, but he enjoyed Grace being married to the daughter of a priest, blessed with two sons and from all indications very settled! As we say in this climes ‘e don blow, everything don set’! God definitely collapsed years for him. Interestingly even though he was just 30 years, he did not lose focus of the vision and purpose, we see how diligently he delivered storage for 7 years, not once did the King have to look back, and when Famine began the King simply referred the people to him, there was deep seated trust based on evidence of performance! And suddenly his brothers show up! We see prophecy being fulfilled, we compassion, high order of human relations displayed and understanding of purpose. Have you been through tough patch in your career? Accused wrongly, badly treated, colluded against, harassed, suspended wrongly, made redundant maliciously name it! What will you do when God places any of the persons who orchestrated this in your hands such that you are in a position to lift them?
Key Lessons
1.????Leadership is not age bound: 46?Joseph was thirty years old?when he entered the service?of Pharaoh King of Egypt. Who would have thought that degree of responsibility? It is about what the journey has prepared you for, what is your journey saying to you?
2.?????Enable for the future: Your purpose in the organization is not only about today. Joseph stored up huge quantities of grain, like the sand of the sea; As soon as some come into position of power the storage shifts location to their bank accounts and homes. We have witnessed nations being destroyed with singular acts like this rather than build for the future. What role are you playing in wealth building? Or its wealth depletion?
3.?????Walk the floor: A leader should never be disconnected from the vision nor the people who execute the vision. “Joseph went out from Pharaoh’s presence and traveled throughout Egypt” I have seen situation where once individuals have been promoted they rarely show up any more, the same people they are to empower have now become disdainful to them. They will stop at nothing to tear at their persons and speak derogatorily to them. They no longer fit “your status”. Remember the people you meet on your way up in climbing the ladder, you may need them on your way down.
4.?????Life is in Seasons: Organizations will always go through seasons. We have seen a whole lot from the global economic perspectives. How will you as a leader or employee steer when the season occurs? There will always be winter, understand it and position for it. Gen 8:22 “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”

5.?????Influence right: V 19-25, we Joseph’s steward engaging his brothers, not only was he compassionate, he had reference for God! 23?“It’s all right,” he said. “Don’t be afraid. This is interesting, when we interact with your team as a leader or even member of the team what shall be found? There are so many influencers on social media platforms, sir…ma…who are you influencing?
6.??????Take Charge, Not Charge at- Gen 45 4?Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Come close to me.”?When they had done so, he said, “I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt!?
Imagine if this was you ….Will you be this compassionate? Will you understand purpose? Will you draw close? 1 Samuel 24?6?He said to his men, “The?Lord?forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the?Lord’s anointed,?or lay my hand on him; for he is the anointed of the?Lord.”?7?With these words David sharply rebuked his men and did not allow them to attack Saul. And Saul left the cave and went his way.
David had an opportunity to kill Saul who was pursuing him. He didn’t. What has God brought to you? Who have you been sent to where you are? Who are you to save from a precarious situation even if they feel contrary about you? Take charge of the circumstance and your emotions, do not use your emotions and experience to charge out.
7.??????Leave a Legacy: Joseph settled generations in Goshen, ensured a whole nation was delivered, he is etched in history. ?Gen 46 11?So Joseph settled his father and his brothers in Egypt and gave them property in the best part of the land,?the district of Rameses,?as Pharaoh directed.
What legacies are you leaving, building in the organization you are in? Think legacy, think whom you represent. What will you remembered for when time is done?

2 年Lovely insights, Walk the floor hits hard. I've realized that it's so easy to be far from the people you lead and takes a deliberate effort to come close. "He travelled round Egypt" seems like Management by walking around. Interacting and giving immediate feedback and checking the organizational pulse etc. It's so sad that the inability to deliberately stay close to the people is what invariably ends the life and careers of many leaders. God help us. Thank you Kunbi Adeoti, MCIPM, GPHR,SHRM-SCP, SPHRI, ANITAD , HRPL for the lessons.

2 年I took an extra pause on #6 Take Charge, Not Charge at. It takes a great sense of understanding ones identity and purpose not to "charge at" people. It is good to bear in mind that the position we find ourselves does not define us, rather we give meaning to the position. Both Joseph and David had their opportunity to deal with their enemies, but they dealt rightly, defining both the moment and their positions. I am not certain how easy that was for them. But I know such demonstration takes a level of grace and understanding. Thank you ma, for pouring out of your wealth of knowledge.

2 年This is an insightful and inspiring read. This can be a whole day's session in a leadership training! ?? It's amazing how much life and career lessons one can glean from the Bible. I particularly like lesson 2 - Enable for the future, and lesson 3 - Walk the floor. Thank you ma.
