I like to share to many what the various teams I worked with observed to be successful on managing construction projects. Various construction projects have different need however most of them include deadlines to meet, ordering long lead time items, financing the project, reviewing cost changes, checking the progress of the project, and reviewing the quality of the work among others. To be successful on your construction projects, it is important to focus on time, cost, and quality.
In the series of articles that I will publish soon, we will discuss about focusing on time, cost, and quality. I hope all of you join in this series of articles on "How to be successful on your construction projects" by posting questions, sharing your experiences, and providing advise to the various readers.
Focus on time - Review the effect of time on your project. This may include expediting your work to catch up with the required deadline, requesting extension of time due to delays beyond your control, and updating your project schedule to reflect current time variables.
Focus on cost - Evaluate actions taken based on its cost implication on the project. You may had hired more people to the job site to expedite your project, there may be additional work required on the new set of plans, and it just rained on your project among others. All these affect the cost of the project.
Focus on quality - Review constantly the quality of the work performed on the job site. It is very important to check the quality of ongoing and completed work. It is very important that you comply with applicable building codes, city requirements, and all the required plans provided.
