Serialization in pharmaceutical Industry

Many countries start to establish serialization for each single pharmaceutical package. Typically prescription medicines are affected and sometimes non prescription (OTC - Over the Counter) also. We have an established system in Turkey. In the US is was set into force by November 2017. Due to many manufactures not beeing ready punishment of non confirming was postponed. Now Russia plans to implement a system with crytographic data. China did use a 20 digit bar code so far but the project seems to be stopped. However most manufacturers leave the code on the package. Rumours say that by 2020 a new system with a Data Matrix code is to be established in China.

Serialisation for pharmaceuticals seems a world wide trend to fight against counterfeits. Also in the entire european union this comes into force by February 9th 2019.
