India is truly blessed and divine land of natural beauty. Some of the best serene and peaceful places are-Nubra valley, Ladakh. Almost on the edge of the Indian map, this quiet valley has only recently become accessible to tourists. It can be reached only by crossing one of the highest motorable mountain passes in the world: the Khardung La. The world’s highest battle-field isn’t far from here. Even so, the Nubra valley and its villages are serene and peaceful, with sprawling pasture lands, fields, flowers, and friendly people. You need a permit to stay here and it is given for a maximum of 7 days, but if you make the trip, you will experience deep serenity.
The Backwaters of Kerala: Offbeat or not, it is impossible to strike out God’s Own Country from a list of most serene places in India. Nature has blessed this part of the nation with an abundance of beauty. Summer, winter or monsoon – the canals and waterways never fail to impress you. Rent a houseboat, and sail into the quiet backwaters. Taste local cuisine as you soak in the lush green surroundings. Watch the tiny islands and villages move by. Make friends with the locals and enjoy the simple and peaceful life.
Coorg, Karnataka: India’s coffee country is fragrant with tranquility. Blessed with mountains, spice plantations, estates, charming villages and home stays run by local families, this is where you could actually do nothing and feel fulfilled. Just a few hours away from Bangalore, this is a gentle stretch of mountain-studded terrain, thick with coconut trees, vanilla, pepper vines, cardamom, orange groves, and yes, coffee. Waterfalls abound, and some homestay resorts are located in the middle of lush plantations, taking you far away from the madding crowd!
Khajjiar, Himachal Pradesh. Far from any major towns or cities, amid dense pine forests, Khajjiar is a peaceful paradise indeed. Often referred to as the “mini Switzerland of India,” this tiny hill station in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh is one of the lesser-known but most charming retreats in India. Three ecosystems meet here: lakes, forests and pasture lands. Put on your walking shoes, and stroll along…
Malana, Himachal Pradesh. Yet another gift from the mountains, Malana was untouched by modern civilization for a long time. Known as the “little Greece in Himachal,” the people of this tiny but unique village with about 100 houses believe that they are the descendants of “Alexander the Great.” They are considered to be one of the first democracies in the world. Situated to the north-east of Kullu Valley, isolated from the rest of the world, the village is nestled close to the majestic peaks of Chandrakhani. If you are looking for something totally out-of-the-box, this is your place.
Andretta, Himachal Pradesh: The Kangra valley has always been known to attract artists. Around 200 years ago, it was one of the creative hot-spots. In the modern times, this tradition is being carried on by Andretta, a tiny village home to many artists, 14 km south of Palampur in Himachal Pradesh. It is a potpourri of culture that can definitely inspire you. Tucked away amongst the plains of Kangra valley, it is blessed with an exclusive panorama of the mountains.

Himachal has very low crime rate (1), and most of the people in Dev bhoomi are contented in their life, the most important thing to be happy, and if you are satisfied with your life you won’t think about committing a crime! People mostly are very simple living, warm, and hospitable. Of course isolated incidents of crime do happen in Himachal as well but they are minuscule as compared to other states! Himachal is yet to me fall to modernisation and to enter a competitive materialistic world! I hope we stay as rooted, as we still are at the moment, to our grounds in future as well!
I think Mizoram is the most peaceful state. In states like Tamil Nadu and Kerala, there is always news about corruption by political leaders as well as propaganda upheaval during elections. In Mizoram there is no campaigning but still among highest voter turnout in the country. The only political problem they had was the frequent change of Governor 7 in last 8 months till June 2015. Religion is an integral part of Mizo people. Church is very powerful institution and play an important part in regulating people activities. Recently they was complete ban on alcohol which was replaced by regulated sale after 20 years. Currently this state is growing at 8.75% per annum.
After ending of separatist movements and insurgency, peace prevails in the state. I think it is the biased media and neglect of mainland Indians which never capture the social harmony of the state. I forgot to add there is no Armed Forces (Special Protection) Act in the state.
Chandigarh as the most peaceful, the most beautiful and the most managed city. Its all because of its people. The civic sense of Chandigarh peoples are mind blowing. I lived there for around 1 year ,the best thing which i observed there that people are very much keen on public hygiene, if some one finds any litter in any public place like parks, roads etc they just collect it and throw it at its proper place.
Most of the people are educated and they love spending time in beautiful parks of “the city beautiful”. After 5 PM most of the people go to parks along with their family and friends or sometime alone also ,after their regular service. The crime rate is minimal. As its a UT there are very less political melodrama like rallies and bandh. Diversity- Well it lies between Haryana and Punjab ,but there are lot of people from other states also who lives there in peace and harmony. There a lot of scenic places in and around the city. Himachal Pradesh is adjacent to this city ,which is a paradise for any adventure lover. Recently in a recent survey conducted by LG ,Chandigarh declared as the most happiest city in India. Cheers!
