SerbLink Team Intro- Meet Milo?!
What do you enjoy most about working at SerbLink?
The people. Not only the ones who work at SerbLink but also everyone I’ve met through SerbLink. Even though we are a relatively small community Serbs are spread out everywhere. You can be in the same area for your entire life but you will never cross paths. But thanks to my work with SerbLink I’ve met so many great people who I never would have if this company didn’t exist.
How did you join SerbLink?
Before the first SL event (when it wasn’t even called SerbLink) Nikola told me about this idea. He said he had a location, a time, and guests attending but he needed a photographer. I didn’t hesitate when I answered: “I’ll be there”. Ever since then, the company has changed in ways I couldn’t imagine, and this is still only the beginning.
What is your big vision of SerbLink?
I think SerbLink has a massive potential that we can’t even see yet. Serbs are proud people who love their country and their people - because of that anything is possible for SerbLink. My big vision for SerbLink is already in our slogan - “Together We’re Stronger”. I want to see SerbLink create a program that brings Serbs all around the world to visit their homeland. It might seem strange for people who live outside Serbia but visit frequently that many people of Serbian origin have never had the opportunity to visit Serbia.
We had an opportunity to see this first hand at our when in Chicago. Many people there are third, fourth or even fifth-generation Serbian-Americans. As the generations have gone on many people have lost their connection to Serbia in one way or another. But even if they’ve never been to Serbia, don’t know how to speak to read Serbian, or even know any other Serbs, they are still proud of their heritage. Different countries have a program like this already, where they offer the experience to people around the world to spend a period in their homeland so they can connect and truly appreciate where they come from.
This is several years, maybe decades away from even being a possibility for SerbLink to do, but seeing how far we have come in our first year, anything is possible.
How has your Serbian heritage shaped your identity and worldview?
My Serbian Heritage has been an important factor of my life from birth. It has taught me how to appreciate everything around me. Serbia and its people have persevered through unprecedented situation after unprecedented situation and yet, every time we came out stronger. Being appreciative of what you have because you know what those before you had to sacrifice for you to have what you have.
