Another First: Sequans Calliope 2 Cat 1bis Technology Approved by AT&T and FirstNet
Sequans, a leader in cellular IoT for many years, has achieved several industry firsts in its long history. The latest is the approval by AT&T of its Calliope 2 GC02S1 module, which marks the first Cat 1bis cellular IoT solution to be approved for use on AT&T’s commercial mobility network. The approval extends to FirstNet (First Responder Network Authority), built with AT&T to support America’s first responders and public safety community. Sequans pioneered the use of Cat 1 for IoT and was the first to deliver a Cat 1 IoT module to market in 2015. Today, Sequans has extended its lead with Cat 1bis, a new version of Cat 1 that has been optimized for cost and power consumption while retaining the high reliability and low latency of original Cat 1 technology. Cat 1bis is universally available technology that can fill in coverage gaps, and it supports higher throughput applications, including vehicle telematics, security and alarm systems, payment systems, and healthcare devices.?

Geotab Adopts Calliope 2
One of the first Sequans customers to adopt Calliope 2 is Geotab, a global leader in connected transportation solutions. Geotab selected Calliope 2 as part of its product strategy because, in addition to its cost and power advantages, it is available on any LTE network, making it ideal for telematics applications. Sequans’ relationship with Geotab has been in place for several years, demonstrating the commitment of Sequans to supporting its customers and to the intelligent evolving of its cellular IoT product roadmap.
Calliope 2 GC02S1 Modules Description
Calliope 2 GC02S1 modules are based on Sequans’ second-generation Calliope 2 chip and deliver optimized Cat 1bis connectivity for IoT and consumer devices including vehicle telematics, healthcare devices, alarm systems, and personal security devices. Calliope 2 delivers ultra-low power consumption and can support Voice over LTE (VoLTE). The Calliope 2 GC02S1 module is assembled in Vietnam. The Calliope 2 chip on which the module is based is designed in Europe and manufactured in Taiwan. ?
