Paying it Forward in Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
On September 4th, the CarsonStrong Foundation organized a "Pay it Forward" event in honor of Carson at UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. Patients and staff at the hospital enjoyed an afternoon of delicious food catered by Chipotle and Chick-fil-A, fun cape crafts, a photo booth, and music by DJ SMOOV. Willie Nelson, the therapy mini horse from Victory Gallop even made a special appearance. This day provided a much-needed break from their hospital stay and gave the staff the appreciation they deserve!
For patients unable to leave their rooms, hospital staff delivered packaged food and craft kits so they wouldn't miss out on the fun.

Carson was passionate about giving back, especially to his fellow patients at the hospital. Each year, Carson's family and the CarsonStrong Foundation continue his legacy of kindness and generosity by dedicating a day to "pay it forward."
Thanks to generous donors like yourself, we were able to put together this wonderful event! We look forward to continuing to pay it forward in Carson's name with your support.
Gift of Time Together Family Spotlight
Shawn courageously fought stage 4 esophageal cancer, but sadly passed away on July 30 at the age of 37. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Kelly, and a wonderful father to his two young children, Landon and Madeline. In addition to his family role, Shawn served as an 8-year veteran of the Cleveland Fire Department, truly exemplifying heroism in every aspect of his life.
Before he passed away, the CarsonStrong Foundation was able to give his family time together at a beautiful cabin. This trip allowed them to spend quality time as a family, including extended family members as well. They had a great time playing games, swimming, and enjoying nature. Shawn’s story illustrates why we work hard to provide the Gift of Time Together to so many families. We are grateful that we were able to give them this time together before he passed away.
Who We Are
Founded in 2017, the CarsonStrong Foundation is committed to improving the lives of children and families impacted by cancer and other significant life challenges.
Carson Gene Higgins courageously faced neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer that affects the body’s nervous system. While Carson’s life was short, it was rich with faith, hope, love, and strength. His examples of kindness and generosity encourage us to live and love richly, to take each day as a gift, and to give generously.
Together, we can bring hope to other families facing difficult and sometimes devastating life challenges.
