CEO at Working with Parents in Sport (WWPIS) - 'Supporting organisations, coaches, parents and children to work effectively together to help young people fulfil their potential both in and out of their sport.'
Dear Subscriber,
We hope this edition of the newsletter finds you well and you have enjoyed the wide range of announcements and resources that have been added into the WWPIS community over the last few weeks.
We have a record breaking month ahead as sporting organisations and schools look to kick start their sporting year in the UK. Throughout the month of September we will be running sessions for management, coaches, parents and young athletes across a whole host of sports.
The Women's World Cup, the Hundred and the World Athletics Championships are just some of the sporting events that have kept us wholly entertained over the last six weeks and we hope that you were able to enjoy some of these events alongside your children.?
There is so much power in our children watching sports and for parents it is a real opportunity to share these moments with them and a great opportunity to have some amazing conversations.?
As an organisation we continue to promote and support the work of ‘The True Athlete Project.’ Their global mentoring scheme is now open for a new cohort of young athletes aged between 15-24 and if you are a sports parent reading this, it is well worth checking out.
Membership of the new look WWPIS platform is proving popular and we have had some wonderful feedback from organisations, coaches and parents who are enjoying the feel and variety of the content. Each month will see new content added to the platform, so keep your eye out for those.
We have lined up an incredible range of contributors to support our membership and they have been tasked with providing the most useful and practical resources possible.
The Parents in Sport podcast this month saw us joined by former NFL coach, Captain of GB Women's team and Sky Sports and Talk Sport Broadcaster Phoebe Schecter to discuss her varied life in sport, being a strong role model and how parents can support and inspire their daughters on their sporting journey.
You can find out more about a number of these items in this month’s newsletter.
NEW LEARNING COURSE
We are thrilled to announce the launch of a brand new learning course for coaches – ‘Engage – building positive relationships with your young athletes’ parents.’
Having led the way in this field in the coach education sector over the last few years delivering globally to thousands of coaches both in person and online across a multitude of sports, we are delighted to have refined and created this online course for all of the coaches and sporting organisations that we work with.

RICHMOND GYMNASTICS CLUB VISIT
What a brilliant day we had at Richmond Gymnastics Association this month along with our first taste of acrobatic gymnastics.?
It was great to run sessions for coaches and both junior and senior parents. This was to complement the incredible environment and support they are already giving to families within the club.
Our work in gymnastics continues to grow with a number of clubs now running customised annual programmes alongside us providing live and virtual sessions and resources to their entire club communities.
If you would like to find out more about these programmes and our work in gymnastics all over the world then email [email protected] .
THE TRUE ATHLETE PROJECT
We are big supporters of the True Athlete Project here at WWPIS and it is always one of the highlights of the year delivering sessions for the parents of the young athletes on the programme.
This is an incredibly special year, in which mentees (committed young athletes, aged 15-24) are matched with a current or former elite athlete in a personal, nurturing relationship, which is flexible around both athletes' schedules.?
The overall aim of the programme is to provide these young athletes with a positive role model who has been through many of the same highs and lows that they can relate to, as well as some key strategies and tools to help them be more resilient and find greater meaning in their sporting endeavours, aside from the results they achieve.
Please see the brochure for more details and to apply, or go to TAP's website to find out all about the experience from past athletes.
The True Athlete Project is a UK and US-based charity, with a mission to create a more compassionate world through sport.
LINCOLN CITY ACADEMY VISIT
After running a virtual session last year for parents of the older children at Lincoln City last year on ‘Managing Disappointment’ it was great to visit the academy in person for a series of live sessions at the end of August.
We delivered a staff session followed by a session for 9-11 year old parents and 12-13 year old parents exploring some of the challenges faced at being a parent of an academy footballer.

There was an incredible turnout for all of the sessions and it is always great to hear different perspectives from such a wide range of staff and parents as we all strive to work together to create the best environments possible to nurture the potential of young people both on and off the pitch.
