Be part of the stampede for hospice's fa-bull-ous art trail

BUSINESSES can join the herd to support Bulls in the City, a spectacular brand-new art trail which will engage the community and attract thousands of visitors to Birmingham in 2025.

The project will feature a dramatic stampede of larger-than-life colourful sculptures inspired by the iconic Bullring statue, designed by Laurence Broderick, which will be spread throughout Birmingham’s bustling streets.

Bulls in the City is a partnership between Birmingham Hospice and Wild in Art, with the trail running for eight weeks from July 2025.

Organisations who sponsor a sculpture can choose the artist who will create their own unique and eye-catching design.

New and established creators will submit their designs to transform a blank bull, which will then be presented to sponsors, who then select their favourite.

The successful artist will be commissioned to apply their design, which could be anything from fine art to graffiti or anything in-between.

Schools and community groups can get involved in Bulls in the City by adopting their own mini-bull sculpture.

Backing this high-profile media friendly event will raise the profile of sponsors and deliver direct access to new audiences, with their company logo prominently placed on their bull’s plaque.

Families and friends alike will scour the city centre to discover these beautifully brilliant bespoke bovine by using a trail map and app.

This will help them navigate the trail, discover new places and unlock exciting rewards and discounts provided by sponsors.

Hospice CEO Simon Fuller said: “We’re thrilled to bring Bulls in the City to Birmingham, in partnership with Wild in Art.

"This is an ambitious project for the hospice that not only promises to be a spectacle for the city but also provides a great opportunity for local businesses, artists and residents to unite through creativity and innovation.

“The project will leave a lasting legacy for the hospice, enabling us to raise awareness of the importance of hospice care and to extend our support to more people during their end-of-life journey.”

Schools, colleges and community groups will also join in the fun, by adopting and designing their own smaller calf sculptures while taking part in a bespoke Learning Programme.

Supporting Bulls in the City will also help Birmingham Hospice’s dedicated staff deliver high quality palliative care to people with life-limiting illness.

Every pound raised will fund our work and provide choice, comfort, dignity and care for people at the most difficult time in their lives.

“There are a range of sponsorship opportunities available, so don’t miss this chance to join us and together we can stage an unforgettable event,” added Charlie Langhorne, managing director and co-founder of Wild in Art.

We offer a range of packages for sponsors but there are only a limited number of bulls available, so please don’t delay in contacting project manager Rebecca Richards by emailing [email protected] or calling 07970 040863.

Marathon runners bank vital funds for hospice

BUDDING bankers from Handelsbanken raised £2,911.25 for Birmingham Hospice by completing a gruelling marathon on September 5th.

Staff at the banking network’s branches in outlets in Birmingham and Bromsgrove met with our hospice teams last year and learned about the vital palliative care we provide for people with life-limiting illness.

They were so moved by our work they were determined to raise vital funds for the hospice.

To prepare, they set up running clubs and ran many miles in practice.

The marathon started at the bank’s branch in Worcester and the route included the one’s in Bromsgrove and Edgbaston before ending at Colmore Row.

Bank runners: Handelsbanken's caring staff raised vital funds for Birmingham Hospice with a marathon run.

The dedicated runners were greeted by a member of our Corporate Fundraising team and hospice mascot, Hettie. The amount raised for the hospice is also set to rise as the final donations come.

Jessica Roberts, Private Banking Manager of Handelsbanken Birmingham branch, said: “We feel incredibly lucky to have received this wonderful support and would like to say a big thanks to our very own Handelsbanken Hospice Heroes!”

A huge thank you to Stephen Breen, Joanne Denning, Hannah Parkhouse, David Spiby, Jessica Roberts, Declan Fitzpatrick (CeMAP), Robert Stewart, James Henderson, Joanne Farrah, Niomi Laidley, Ashley Potter, Brian Tomlinson, Holly McGuire, Stephen Drury, Katie Liu and Nicola Knight (CeMap) for their fundraising efforts.

Support from companies, such as the incredible Handelsbanken team, is more important than ever to help us overcome the funding crisis we’re currently facing. We’ve launched our Crisis Appeal to raise awareness of the difficulties the hospice sector is facing. ?

Dates for the Diary:

Hard at work: Virgin Media 02 volunteers worked in one of our hospice's gardens.

Virgin volunteers go green in the garden

We are incredibly grateful to our green fingered friends from Virgin Media O2, who recently spent the day working in one of our hospice gardens. Volunteers worked dilligently and creating a beautiful space for our patients to enjoy.

Their generosity didn't stop there as they donated a brand-new hedge trimmer.

Birmingham Hospice also received a £5,000 grant from Virgin, thanks to a member of the team who nominated the charity.

Their support means the world to us and makes a significant difference to the hospice.

If your company would like to find out more about volunteering or supporting us in anyway, please get in touch via [email protected].
