ZSFG Hosts First Milk Drive in 30 Years
As the first Baby-Friendly Certified hospital in San Francisco, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center helps all babies get a healthy?start in life.??
In honor of National Breastfeeding Month, ZSFG hosted its first Milk Drive in over 30 years this month in partnership with Mother's Milk Bank. The dedicated staff of the Labor and Delivery team collected more than 1,500 ounces (and counting) of human milk to be donated to babies and families in the Bay Area and across the country. Donations support infants who are premature, separated from their birth parents, or have specific health needs, ensuring they receive essential nutrition for healthy growth and development.??
Gillian Otway, RN, MSN Named Chief Nursing Officer?
This month, Gillian Otway, a true leader at ZSFG, stepped into a more permanent leadership position as the Hospital’s Chief Nursing Officer. Beginning her career at ZSFG in 1998, Gillian has played a role in nearly every corner of the hospital, working as a nurse manager both on the units and in support of the future of nursing at ZSFG. In this new role, Gillian will lead over 1,000 nurses and partner with the Chief Medical Officer to oversee all clinical services on campus. Congratulations, Gillian!?

Diabetes Education – Grantee in Action
A hallmark of the Equity &?Innovation Grants program is the long-lasting impact many initial investments have had on health care delivery at ZSFG. For Dr. Liseli Mulala, a Discharge Pharmacist, when data showed racial disparities in readmission rates following patients with discharge counseling for diabetes, she and her team decided to act.??
Three years after the original grant, the Pharmacy Department now offers patient resources to reverse this trend that include?culturally appropriate and linguistically accessible educational diabetes materials.?
